Overpayments in benefits

Hello can someone tell me the rules about overpayments in benefits by the dwp. Is it true that the overpayment is a result of the DWP, getting it wrong rather than the person giving wrongly information, that it can't be claimed back? Thanks

Yes for the old legacy benefits such as Income Related ESA/JSA, Income Support. However, for UC then all overpayments are recoverable, even if it's their error.
I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying.
If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help.

Hello Poppy thank you just I'm a bit concerned about this review. It's probably just a routine check but I do have the tenancy to always think the worst!

Try not to overthink it (difficult i know) but you're highly likely right and it's just a random check.
