RNIB telephone counselling

After I became visually impaired I spoke to someone at the RNIB and they arranged a telephone appt. today which I thought was for counselling, in fact it was about counselling what I expected to gain, if I wanted group or one to one, if I wanted a male or female counsellor and oh btw are you feeling suicidal (if anyone ask me that again I might be) and do I self harm.

Having gone through that and deciding what was best they then said there is a waiting list and I might get a counsellor around Christmas time, I came off the phone feeling even more depressed.

Luckily I am seeing the mental health nurse at my GP's surgery who is great and trying to sort out my depression and anxiety meds, so far without success .

I just feel that nobody understands what I'm dealing with, there's a long list of stuff I can no longer do, but I must count my blessings that SM is sharing my journey as ever.

Counselling services are so difficult to get now @woodbine, it really is a terrible situation up and down the country. My partner was offered group therapy sessions and told it was a 3 month waitlist. So after 3 months she joined the first session, just to be told it was actually a trial session to see "if it was viable". If you deemed it was viable then you could call up to get on the actual waitlist. Which my partner did, and was told there was another 7 month waitlist for the actual sessions.

I'm glad you at least have that mental health nurse who is helping you out. Medication can be helpful, but it's scientifically proven that medication and counselling/therapy has the best outcomes.

They/Them, however they are no wrong pronouns with me so whatever you feel most comfortable with
