Riots and protests
I'm so confused by them all if I'm honest and despite how widespread they are they don't seem to be being talked about.
Has anyone here been impacted by them??
I don't fully understand the reasons for them if I'm honest

I also don’t understand why people are protesting, I hear it was regarding the 3 girls stabbed in Sunderland but not even sure that’s the reason
however people have been saying on lbc that the government taking away the elderly winter fuel payments when asylum seekers will be in 3,4,5 star hotels, 3 meals a day and kept warm over winter is fuelling the protests

Its really bad @Biblioklept one planned Birmingham on 17th too but I do believe starmer is serious when he says he will crack down on it.
@apples I understood it is going to be means tested, so the poorer pensioners get it, this has nothing to do with asylum seekers

Smashing up shops and community libraries is just shameful
I really fear for all the people that are being targetted 😕
I hope he does @Sandy_123

I think he will he's does a lot behind the scenes that people don't see. I've been telling everyone I know to stay out of Birmingham on 17th. A lot have been arrested and their court cases are going through fast. It's all on X or twitter. There have been a lot of communities coming together in all this too

It's simply racism, fuelled by the media.
One white person commits an awful crime, nothing happens. One non-white person commits an awful crime, people are out with pitchforks genuinely believing they're protecting the country by removing anyone that doesn't look 'English'.
There have been some awful crimes committed recently, for which there is no excuse, but the response to them is not excusable either.

There's some info here from a reputable source:

Whatever they are doing it for the way they are acting it's not the answer . They are trying to get a point across in the wrong way . Why can't they do something peaceful?

Money for poorer pensioners and asylum seekers is taken from one budget.

The government does not like it when people fight against the consequences of government policies using the government’s dirty methods.

Don’t believe the lies on social media and in some newspapers.
When they run out off asylum seekers etc they will come for the disabled. Hatred is voracious.1 -
Misleading

Exactly. We are already scapegoated by the politicians and media. We are the next group to be 'othered'

ALL governments in any contries expect migrants, even if they are not first generation, to work for the “big money”. Those who cannot generate income for the “big money” are enemies. For example, disabled people.

Its disgusting behavior, I understand being upset about the stabbings in Southport. But singling out and blaming all immigrants for it is not the way to go about it. We shouldn't blame every immigrant for what happened, I'm sure they are just as upset as we are of what happened.
I know immigration is a big problem at the moment, but we need to find a peaceful and fair solution to tackle it, destroying towns and cities just to make a point is doing more damage than good. Seems like most people are just using southport as an excuse to get away with causing as much trouble as possible.

From what I can understand the very unfortunate situation of reform getting a few MPs has flicked a switch in some nasty people's minds that makes them believe that acting like violent thugs, being racist and smashing everything up is now ok.
Disgusting people and hope they get long sentences.

My niece-in-law and their children live in Brum. She was born [insert Indian first name] [insert Indian surname]. My nephew is unfortunately dead.
if the very tip of one hair on their heads or their relatives' and friends' heads is harmed - as an immobile old lady, don't know exactly what I'd do about it, but not shut up, for the rest of my life never shut up about it.1 -
The main thing here is not to forget that bombing the French, Germans, Ukrainians, Russians, Indians, Zulus and Boers is normal. Write if you forgot anyone. If for centuries people have been raised to hate other peoples, it also takes centuries to make them tolerant.

Hey everyone, I'm just piping in here to say that this is an ongoing situation so please do keep that in mind when sharing information. It's very easy to accidentally spread misinformation. Consider where you have hard the information from and whether it has been verified at all.
What I have seen happen and what I have heard from people who have witnessed them is horrible. I hope they end.

Despite all the noise I still believe the majority of people do not harbour hate and prejudice in their hearts

Lots of arrests have happened these few days and good.
