Garden holes

Sooooooooo I weeded half of my garden (IT'S SO HARD WHAT!!!! Whyyyyy!)

I'd been letting them grow and just mowing the lawn over them so the roots seem to have gotten quite big and removing the weeds has left like circle holes the size of a bottle cap and quite deep all over the garden πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

Sooooo how do I fix that?! And why does sorting one problem always lead to another??!

Yay for weeding the garden!! I'm not the person to give advice about gardening but just wanted to say well done for getting that task done 😊 Is today less bouncy?

It started off that way but when I stopped for a break I can't get myself to get back to it now so doing everyyyyything but the rest of the weeding! At least I managed half though 😎

Exactly. Plus I don't think weeding is a 'do it all in one day' job. Definitely best to pace yourself πŸ˜‰ Don't overdo it with all the other tasks!

You must have some tough weeds there. Looks like the African savannah out here…

Are the weeds in the lawn or in borders? If they're in the lawn, the grass will spread to cover them when we get some wet weather. You can also use a bit of soil from the edge of the garden to fill each hole and then grass seed over the top. But that needs to be done in damp weather. It won't grow in the dry heat we've got right now, the birds will eat it all before it has a chance to root lol.

Glad you got some weeding done. See, you DID get it done, just not on the day you planned. πŸ˜‰

We have weeds with huuuuuge taproots and if you dont get every tiny bit out, they just sprout back in days. Once the roots are out, we just smooth over the soil. If it's issues with the lawn, you can buy some simple pour lawn seed from Amazon. Just needs a bit of TLC for a week.

I wonder if we have a similar tool @Biblioklept as mine leaves similar sounding holes. I'm hoping some rain will move the dirt around a bit and they'll take care of themselves!

I'll try and take a photo later and we can compare the damage

Dandelion roots look like parsnips in our garden - we dig them out with a special tool..

it does remove the whole root

No idea where the weeds come from though - you turn your back and they're huge

The idea of a lovely lush lawn is super appealing! But both my dog and local foxes insure there's always dead patches of grass everywhere. For some reason, I never really thought of the grass as a growing plant and not invested that much time to it compared to growing something like a tomato plant or flower. I did invest in a grass rake and was amazed at the amount of moss it pulled out from the grass. A bit of over seeding the lawn and a light scattering of compost really helped revive things, along with some watering. I've got a lot of what I think is called crab grass. It kind of spreads outward covering the ground rather than growing upright. So when you pull that out it also leaves a large patch of bare ground. At the moment the grass is a mixture of scorched earth, dead patches, bare clay and a few nice patches of lush lawn πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
