LCWRA - First Payment Confusion.
Hi guys,
Happy New Year :)
My disabled wife and I were forced to migrate to Universal Credit which we did on 1st Sept 24.
On the 10th Sept we submitted my wife’s first fit note.
We are usually paid on 7th of each month.
On 29th Nov 24 my wife had her Work Capability Assessment and on 20th Dec 24 she was awarded LCWRA.
We were told that we would receive an extra payment for this element but I’m confused about when the 3 month wait starts.
We’ve had our payments calculated for January and it’s not been paid with that.
I thought the 3 month wait started when we submitted our first fit note? Or have I got that completely wrong?
Also, we have a transitional element payment as we were migrated so I assume that will be affected by the LCWRA payment too.
Thank you all very much for your help.
Matt.

Happy New Year.
The waiting period is 3 full assessment periods from when you provided the first fit note. It's then paid from the 4th month, with first payment being the end of that month. LCWRA element isn't paid at all during that waiting period.
Sept/Oct.. doesn't count because you provided the first fit note in the middle of that assessment period. If you have provided that fit note within 7 days of submitting your claim then that month would have counted.
Therefore your waiting period is.. Oct/Nov, Nov/Dec, Dec/Jan.. LCWRA starts from assessment period 1st Jan to 31st Jan and first payment will be 7th Feb. This is assuming there were no gaps in your fit notes.
As your UC includes Transitional Protection then that will erode once the LCWRA element is added. If your TP is more than £416.19/month then you will not be any better off with the additional element.
