I am writing this on behalf of Percy Hedley Sports Academy. The Academy provides disability sports such as wheelchair basketball, powerchair football, boccia and sitting volleyball to both disabled and able-bodied people.
As a individual who has Cerebral Palsy I feel there are so many different benefits to sport, it keeps you fit and healthy, it gives me something to do in my spare time, it allows me to socialise with other like-minded people and it's a great conversation starter. I have been playing my chosen sport of wheelchair basketball for the past six years and haven't looked back, I have taken part in national and regional competitions as well as friendly matches with other teams.
As well as making a large group of friends my own age through basketball, I have had the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life with a large range of life experiences, including my long term partner. In my experience parents and families also value from seeing their loved ones benefiting from sport and sharing their stories with you.
If disability sport is something you'd like to try , or you'd just like to speak to other individuals/families, come along, bringing your friends and family to the Percy Hedley Sports Academy Open Day on 30th October 2014 and/or 8th November 2014 at 10.00am - 3.00pm.
If you'd like any more information, or to ask me any questions, my email is j.duggleby@percyhedley.org.uk
I hope to see you soon!
