Changes to the online community and its team

Adrian_ScopeAdrian_Scope Testing Team, Community Team Posts: 7,780 Scope community team
Hello everybody,

You might have seen some new Scope names floating about the community in recent weeks. This is because the online community team has expanded to included @Cher_Scope, @Ross_Scope and @Tori_Scope as our new community co-ordinators.

As well as us having new members of the team, the online community will also be extending the hours in which it's 'manned'.
A member of the community team will be available from 8am to 8pm on weekdays and from 10am to 6pm on weekends. Outside of these hours, if you see any content that you feel breaches the community guidelines or makes you concerned about the welfare of the poster, please report this using the 'flag' and 'report' function at the bottom of the post and a member of the team will review it out of hours.

Please join me in welcoming our new members of the team!

    You’re welcome😁

I will post some more squirrel pictures.

At the moment the photos are in the Wildlife and Photography threads.

I hope in a small way they might cheer people up.🐿 They lift my mood when I see them and each have their own personalities😁

    @Ross_Scope

    Thank you very much😁

I’m so glad I came across this wonderful online community.

As I previously said, I was actually shocked to come across so many wonderful people who actually want to help each other instead of harming each other 😁

As many of you will know I have had some really bad experiences because of being bullied and harassed at work which has resulted in PTSD, so finding a community that actually cares has really helped me😁

A big problem is that many people don’t want to understand how disability can affect someone’s life and they don’t even try. In my case I am just seen as a nuisance and that I should “move on” especially in relation to the PTSD.

I have been able to talk to people on this online community about all of my disabilities (Rheumatoid Arthritis, Osteoarthritis and PTSD), gardening, television programmes, wildlife etc😁

There is a wealth of knowledge within this online community which people are willing to share in order to make a difference to someone’s ife😁

Do you know how happy I feel if someone posts a reply to something I have said or someone likes one of the photos of my little squirrel friends?

The answer is that it makes a huge difference to me after years of being “an afterthought” especially at work. It is really horrible when I know I can do my job but I am seen as nothing but an afterthought😞

In case anyone thinks I am imagining things well being obviously  excluded from team events and having explain to members of other teams who have noticed why I have been left out can be very embarrassing😞

Or the team making travel arrangements amongst themselves and not bothering to ask me how I intend to get to the venue😞

I know I can make an effective contribution but because of the fact that I am disabled and I have PTSD (which was caused by what happened to me at work), many people don’t value my contribution😞

At least here I have had the chance to try to help others (and I am not saying that anything I say actually helps, but I do try to help) which I actually like doing unlike at work where my views are usually ignored and I don’t feel valued there.

The fact that so many people want to support each other is like a breathe of fresh air😁

    @Ross_Scope

    Thank you very much 😁

I actually feel welcome here and it is so upsetting and frustrating that many people are very dismissive because someone is disabled.

There is so much talk about mental health issues these days than there ever was before but in reality many people choose to ignore as it is a tick box exercise for many people but they don’t put any training or awareness into practice😞

Maybe I should post this saying on the Old Sayings thread”you can’t judge a book by its cover”😞

Hi @Shezz....and welcome .....How did you know I played acoustic guitar  ,. my hearing is pretty poor so i gave up playing my guitar ( the same guitar i got myself when i was 14 years old )  ...but with my hearing so bad i stopped playing it and it lay on its stand in the corner of my computer room for years . i,m totally deaf in my right ear apart from jet engine tinnitus 24/7 . ....my wife likes country music so she has it on when doing housework , I came in from the garden  ( just over six months ago)  and I could hear a 5 string banjo over all the other instruments in the band .
So I decided to get myself a cheap 5 string banjo  ....and I have not put it down since ( I really enjoy learning it  especially as we are in isolation a year next month ) I am now learning clawhammer banjo as well ...its taking a long time but I,m getting there with it , especially bluegrass style .
I played in a band for 20 years ( I think that is partly what caused my hearing loss ) 🙄😣...  I also play flute , harmonica , penny whistle , bohdran and I can knock a tune out of an accordion .
Yep , the people on this site are so friendly and also very helpful ....I used to volunteer for anything that needed done in the village , alas , I am not able to do so and I miss helping people ...I got a buzz out of volunteering for many years after the government closed all the factories, foundries and pits in our area .
I could do with a sing song right now 👍🙂
Do you play any instruments Shezz ??
  • ShezzShezz Member Posts: 47 Courageous
Hi  Seanchai I saw your picture on line with your guitar. Giggles. I used to play a few instruments but l can't remember how, anymore.

I love opera  Andre Bocelli my favourite musician and Stevie Wonder too. Oh as for female it has to be Susan Boyle. I love to sing, believe it or not it helps move my body. lol

I was visiting South Africa I got stuck and ciezed up  like a statue we just been given out bags of money to the homeless disabled people around Simons town.

I got stuck down a steep hill gradient mountain of steps. The family i'd been invited to visit had said panicking ' what can we do ?  I wasn't panicking i was staying with the south African airforce. My officer best friend also was one of their search sea and rescue  GRIN.

It does pay to have great contacts all over this wonderful world. lol

Any way l said can you SING lol ? What a beautiful voice. Honest to God imagine being a deep sea diver moving in heavy equipment.
That's what it felt like for me it took an hour to get out of such a situation and body spasm lol.

Talk about embarrassment so i was ordered into the caging of a wheel chair lol.

Music is more than therapy for me, interestingly. It has been known to be my life line.

I often try to use my guitar I not learnt how to remember the new cords.

I wrote a couple of songs and I've been to USA Tenacey, Georgia Alabama.

Stayed with a musician cowboy who also had a physical disability. He got a few cds published. A better electric guitarist than singer don't tell him i said that.

My favourite instrument is the saxophone. Yes l could do with a sing song also. You first i'll follow giggles.

Thank-you for taking the time to write back to me. Come chat again.

    Keep safe and well

    Kind regards

    Shezz

Hi Shezz .....sure, i think playing an instrument is like anything else  " If you don,t use it , you lose it" ..🙂 I have not been playing the guitar for years and I forget the names of the various chords , but I could still play it . I don,t play flute now as I don,t have the puff for it....but the brain-finger co-ordination has helped loads in learning ( trying to learn ) my 5 string banjo .
I think I would freeze up as well , giving bags of money away 🤔😮🙂
It was handy you  having a good friend in the SAA  Shezz.

You sound like a well travelled lady . I was in the USA a few years back ( Florida) with my family ( most of my family but my grandson is severely autistic and my daughter stayed home to look after him ....if he could have flown we would have all been there.).
We really enjoyed it ( 9 of us).  Three weeks in a big villa in the sun....Amazing ! ( It cost an arm and a leg and certainly a "one off" for us) my sons and their families have been back to Florida ...but ...of course last summer, my youngest son and his family were ready to go again to Florida...but the covid 19 virus stopped that ...my family all work hard and I hope they can all get a holiday later this year....but it does not look to promising .🙄
Please take care out there Shezz 👍🙏
