The death has been announced this afternoon of Captain Sir Tom Moore who at the age of 100 raised tens of millions of pounds for charity, and became the oldest person to have a number 1 record.
The term "national treasure" is perhaps used too often, but Captain Tom was an inspiration to all of us in what were and remain very dark days, he really was someone special.
Captain Sir Tom I salute you sir.

Captain Sir Tom Moore is from the town I live in. All the local facebook groups have been busier than ever with messages of respect and they're trying to organise a doorstep clap for him at 8pm tonight.

Where i live they wouldn't clap for anyone  even the nhs at the start ill do it at home

What sad news. I read yesterday that he was in hospital but not in ICU. His symptoms must have gotten worse rapidly. He will be sadly missed by many people and was a true inspiration for all generations

Bit annoying as an ex serviceman to see Colonel Sir Tom constantly being called captain. I started as a Private but would have ripped you ears of if you had called that 18 years later after many promotions. Colonel Moore was promoted Colonel in recognition of his fundraising.

I always wondered where he got the " captain " about....probably the media ...
Tom raised a fair amount for the NHS and I think it's nice to remember him by his correct title ??

The title "colonel" was an honour one bestowed on him by his former regiment, for me he will always be Captain Sir Tom Moore, but call him whatever may his name and his memory live on.
