Pride month

Does anyone celebrate pride month? I've just helped my neighbour put up a huge banner in front of her house and she told me she's making rainbow cupcakes to bring to our community jubilee party over the weekend.

Happy Pride! As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, I'm hoping to do a couple of things to recognise it this year @Biblioklept I've never actually been to a Pride event, so I'm going to try and go along to one. Maybe I'll have to try and do some baking, too!0

I’m asexual (and perhaps agender but not really sure, I’m just not interested in gender) don’t really take part in the community although I have been part of a couple of pub groups before the lockdown put a stop to it and I lost confidence to go back.
I believe the acronym is now “LGBTQIA+“ the “IA” standing for intersex and asexual.
That said I may be wrong, they probably added more letters to it since I typed this (only joking)0 -
I'm out and proud.
Must admit, I've had my struggles, my bad moments, and come across people that wanted to prevent me from been out and proud, but they never defeated me.
@Tori_Scope have you seen the unlimited edition of the coin for pride they are releasing this summer? I want one! I'm on the list to be informed when they ae available.

I saw my friend posting about it @MarkM88, but I haven't had a proper look! I'll have to investigate tonight, as that would be a cool thing to have. Let us know if you manage to get one. I'm sorry that you've come across people who've tried to prevent you from being yourself, but I'm glad you've been able to continue being out and proud
I've seen it written a few ways @66Mustang, but I'm not sure what the most widely accepted version is, so you could well be right! I obviously think all of the identities are valid, so wouldn't want anyone to feel excluded.

I personally didn’t feel excluded when it was just LGBTQ+ as I thought the + was for everyone else. I just wonder how easy it will be to say more and more letters in a normal conversation. That said by adding letters they do recognise the other identities as important and not just “other” so I’m glad of that.1

I am straight person and I never celebrated pride month before . I only found out that last year that more colours were added to the flag. However, I respect people personal choices.3

@66Mustang I actually saw a few people use the version you posted today, it’s the first time I have seen it with those bits in. It’s always evolving though to incorporate others and to remain diverse.@Tori_Scope yeah more information on The Royal Mint website and if I manage to get one I will post about it.1

That's great to hear @Bowen90 It can certainly be a worry when moving to a new place, but it's good to hear that you've been pleasantly surprised (though of course it would be even better if it didn't have to be a worry in the first place!).
I've heard good things about Pride events, though I've also heard that some aren't very accessible for disabled people. Is this something anyone's experienced?0 -
At my groups at the pub we had several people with a wide range of disabilities at the meetings. The group always made sure the pubs we used were wheelchair accessible and as one of the regulars was blind it had to be accessible for them as well.
I can imagine that because it was a smaller group this was easier to facilitate. If I was organising a large event with hundreds or thousands of attendees I think it would be difficult to make it accessible so I do have sympathy with the organisers, as well as the people with disabilities that don’t get to go.0 -
Sadly, I think the LGBTQ..................+ community has not been great when it comes to disabled members of its community. I don't 'feel' like I belong - but I should.
I believe that when you have a 'minority group' (and of course LGBTQ............+ is not a minority group in reality) then that group does not like to be splintered. Naturally, I think that a diverse representation can only strengthen its presence.
I also think this might be a generational 'thing', so things may have changed in the past few years.0 -
I celebrated! Happy for all people who can be themselves.0
