Indications that people are finding it really tough appeared as the amount of saving fell in June and the amount of credit card spending rose 12.5%, I'm sure we all know how tough it is right now but these figures tell the real story of just how tough.
The increase in credit card spending is the highest since 2005.

I'm not sirprised by that, given what everyone has to pay in bills at the moment. Also charity shops have seen more people using their shops, as people find better ways to keep costs down. Ones by me are getting low on stock.

Maybe I shouldn’t have spent that £4.85 on amazon after all.
joking apart, it is a serious situation. It looks as though the USA is approaching a recession also, you know what they say, when America Sneezes we catch a cold.

Have to agree I think we are in for a miserable winter and sadly for many a rotten Christmas, there is even the prospect of power cuts if we are not careful.

I know it seems a silly idea but my advice would be to anyone who has any spare cash would be to do some early Christmas shopping to beat price increases, store like Primark and Next are already apologising for price increases in the Autumn.

    That’s not a bad idea actually @woodbine

Personally i think thermal underwear would be a good present to give this year as we’ll all be pretty cold this winter, unless you happen to be rich that is.

Nb, as I’ve mentioned elsewhere thermal underwear does not protect your lungs. I once developed bronchitis quite quickly when my heating was off and it was minus four inside the house. Despite wearing thermal clothing which meant I was toasty warm I still had to breathe very cold air! Take care out there.

I’m starting my Christmas shop in September. I use all the relevant cashback I can find for whatever I purchase but it still isn’t the same as it used to be.

    Times are tough  :/

@leeCal re; thermal underwear I think it's layers of clothing that help i.e wearing 4 layers keeps you warmer than 2 thick layers.

I know it is going to be really hard for all of us but at the same time i think this situation may show a lot of people, including my own grown up son's, that a throw away culture is not good.
Going back to the days when we fix/mend and make do.
    Reusing and recycling.
Bargain hunting and trying new types of foods to cook/eat.
Cutting down on non essential items
Cutting back on hi waste products.
    Hope that makes sense x
