Here’s another poem I’ve written, I wrote it years back, society’s grown and attitude’s have changed, but it still happens. What do you all think?

    Nice.

It feels more angry than I would allow such assumptions to make me. As others have said, "Assumptions put an ass before u and i".

The human condition is such that people constantly make all sorts of assumptions about everyone, it's certainly not limited to us wheelchair users. Those people are doing it unconsciously (ie not deliberately) so it's rarely constructive to challenge them directly about it.

I've been fortunate to live with some beautiful women from a range of ethnicities and was sometimes appalled by what people assumed about them. Some of my friends scare some people but they're lovely if you get to know them.

Unfortunately that takes time and often we don't have it.

I hope the more of us who get out there and demonstrate/insist that we are included in society, the better it will be for all.

    Good luck.

yes I agree most people who are in some way different face hurtful bias and sometimes cruel assumptions. It’s time we saw the person not the so called label

Those words really strike home to me. So many people have made assumptions about me without knowing me, my life experiences or my hidden capabilities at all, which I found so frustrating and hurtful. Not just me, but my much loved granddaughter when she does or says something other people don’t understand and they judge her. She’s autistic and so many ignorant people have hurt her so much. She’s 14 now and is really struggling sometimes. I’ll show her this. Thank you.

@loony , what a powerful poem. I have had, and still have, people assuming, condescending, and belittling me, but it has only made me stronger and more resilient over the years. However, the journey wasn’t easy. I felt literally every word in your poem. Superb! Get stronger and show the world your worth!

@loony I think there's a bug at the minute we're looking to have fixed. I have to refresh the page, or come out and back in to the comments box so it works. Very annoying so hopefully it'll be sorted soon.
