Capital in the to do list

I saw capital in the to do list, filled that out but it's not in my journal. I've also sent the job centre my capital and I've written it in the journal. Anyone experienced this before? And do they respond on weekends to the journal? Or just Monday-Friday?

    Hi,

Real people don't usually respond to the journal at weekends. But automated messages can still come through.

Is this for a normal review with 4 months worth bank statements?

As im In hospital and they've seen my mum is power of attorney , she's gone to the job centre with my id. Her id, my card and I provided 1 months bank statement as they never asked for longer. Now I've seen that on my universal credit to do list and upload 4 months of statements for all accounts which is what I've done. I've also posted it as well. But it's not in my journal like the others.

Ok, UC don't normally ask for 4 months statements when opening a new claim. Perhaps you have been very unlucky and got a random review before even starting UC properly. I am not sure exactly what's happened there.

Is the To-Do still showing in the To-Do list? If it's gone then you have completed it, even if it doesn't show in the journal yet.

I know it's easier said than done but I would recommend just leaving it for the weekend and checking again on Monday afternoon if you can.

Unless you have income to disregard or capital that can be disregarded, with capital of over £16k you won't be entitled to Universal Credit.

I wonder if there has been a misunderstanding about your capital and savings @ellz0. All money in all of your accounts is counted as 'savings', therefore your total amount would be around £17,300. As Kimi has said, this means you would not be eligible for UC, unless there is any capital to be disregarded. There is information here on what can be disregarded https://www.turn2us.org.uk/get-support/information-for-your-situation/universal-credit-capital-rules/disregarded-capital

ok thanks. I've just messaged on the journal that I can upload my statements, which are currently up to date. I also sent it to the job centre again with the new updates. If the woman can provide me a link again that'll be great.

I imagine they want to check your capital is correct and check you’ve not been getting rid of money on extravagant things or transferring to family members on purpose to get below 16k.

I imagine they will say it’s deprivation of capital and give you notional capital on the amount . You can’t just give money away to be below 16k to be entitled. If you had payed your car insurance off, rent etc then it would of been different

it is for their mortgage and whatever.

Yes I agree with above. Unfortunately, you can't just close the claim and then open a new one with a bit less savings and everything before would be ignored. That will be the reason they're asking to see bank statements going back now, when they wouldn't normally for a new claim. They need to see that you haven't given money away to relatives while the claim was closed. But it sounds like that's exactly what's happened here.

I appreciate you may not have realised that was going to happen. And also appreciate that if you've been in hospital for some time then you can't spend much money. But sadly the UC rules are fairly clear on this. Those of us too unwell to spend money get penalised…

I think you'll just have to wait a few more months for your capital to drop naturally, otherwise this is just going to be a constant cycle of UC closing every 2 or 3 months if you can't use all of the UC payment each month.
