    What you mean?

They will just ask your questions relating to how your mental health effects you and some other ****. For the most part it'd just what you've written in the form and some others to get deeper as to why. You can't really answer the question as to what they're gonna say because their questions are focused on what you've put on the form.

They also do a mental assessment to test your memory etc apparently. I'm not really sure how this is done. Apparently they done it with me but I'm not really sure how.... I think the assessor lied about doing this, unless it's done in a completely subtle way.

They’re useless with Mental Health - I’ve got Epilepsy and memory loss plus Depression. PIP as far as Mental Health is concerned is not fit for purpose. I’m campaigning at the moment. Sorry but I think I might have to get a walking aid!! Even though I need a brain aid!!

Hi michfinch its just that my assessment on the report it was put down as know Mental Health problems as asked if I can drive and read signs the problem is that I do not drive now as with my physical problems with disabilities which I tell the assessor about and suffer from severe depression and anxiety and in the reports that were sent to them with my pip claim form from the Mental Health Team And my Specially Trained Counselor who I see weekly plus my medication but the assessor put know problems as I drove in the past so know mental health problems I just cannot work it out how they come to that decision or is it me being wrong about it.

I think we have to stick together because Mental Health is more difficult for the Assessors to Assess than saying “can you walk without an aid”. Have you a particular Mental Health diagnosis?

Put down what your Dr says or what it says on your Fit Note. Depression is an awful thing to live with, again it is a mental, not physical illness. Depression runs in my family. Now my youngest Son is having counselling for Depression. Keep well.

You don't need a fit note to to claim PIP because PIP isn't about being unfit for work. Putting down depression won't help a PIP claim. You need to explain exactly how your conditions affect you.

I’m quite aware of that. However UC require a Fit Note. My Work Coach tells me so. My Dr says I’m unfit for work and UC say I am but still require me to produce a Fit Note. If you know anything about Epilepsy, you’ll know Depression is just one factor of Epilepsy.

This thread is about PIP not UC. To claim LCW for UC you need a fit note from your GP but this doesn't automatically give you LCW.

Yes, i know all about epilepsy because i've had it for over 40 years. I actually lost my driving license for 9 years because of it.

Hi poppy123456 I did and its in the reports that were sent to them with my pip claim form from the Mental Health Team who come to see me at home  And my Specially Trained Counselor who I see weekly plus my medication and it still did not count in the eyes of the assessor so how much more do they need and that is how come I'm going to the tribunal after the report from my assessor it was a total joke

I can’t drive full stop! I’ve had Epilepsy since 1972. I’ve had my friend a Lawyer with me and basically it appears (and confirmed today in front of my Son at UC “work meeting” with “Fitness Note”, the don’t know what to do with me.

Hence me advising I submit Fit Notes every 28 days.

I'm completely confused with the thread because one minute it's about PIP and then the next it's fit notes for UC. I wish you both good luck with your Tribunals for UC/ESA and PIP.

So you tell me what benefit I should be on when the DWP themselves don’t know what to do with me?

michfinch Community member Posts: 173 Pioneering
If the DWP don’t know what to do with me, as I said, what chance do we with Mental Illness’ have?! I am asked by DWP/UC to provide Fit Notes, which I do, got it? My Dr says I am unfit for work. You work that one out. A Nurse Practioner makes a decision and over-rules a Specialist and the Dr’s Fit Notes. It’s designed to confuse Epileptics, however, if you have got through the red tape, tell me, and others how?

I think you’re confused because you’ve not been in this ludicrous complex situation!

As I say I’m in touch with Amber Rudd. My background is worldwide Press and PR, I started www.toffs.com but had to retire due to a near nervous breakdown and resurgence in Epilepsy, so I will use my contacts to unravel this mess for us Epileptics

I'm confused because the thread was about PIP, not UC and not for any other reason. My reason's for claiming benefits are totally different to your reasons. I was simply trying to help you so please be mindful of your tone.

I am mindful, stress is one of my Epilepsy triggers. I am merely asking you, if you know so much, and no one in the Benefits Agency seems to know what to do with me, and you seem so knowledgable, what do I do? Merely asking a question of you. We all suffer stress, but don’t make it an excuse....

I have no problems helping anyone, it's the only reason i'm here. I don't know your whole story but i'm assuming you claimed ESA, had the assessment and were found fit for work?  Once this happened you claimed UC and appealed the ESA decision am i right? If so, did you take the ESA decision to Tribunal? and for UC they won't accept your fit note?
