Hi please can I get some advice on IQ SCORES and pip related activities. I recently won my daughters tribunal and she was given 4 points for help bugeting and 4 points for needing assistance in the kitchen , mobility she scored 10 for not being able to follow unfamiliar route.. my daughter is 17 and has MLD , she was recently testEd by a psychologist using the wisc-iv her score is 58 well below average in all areas . Her special needs are cognitive learning. I am confused as the tribunal never scored her any points at all in the communication or reading and understanding. My daughter has had specialist help with reading and understanding from an earlier age , at the tribunal all was asking is do you get a teaching assistant which she replied yes.. has anyone else had problems with this

Hi @andreaCarer
Eligibility for PIP points is less about conditions/diagnoses/IQ and more about how these things impact on someone in their day to day life.
The issue your daughter is facing is that the bar to get points for communication is very high - if someone can hear, speak and answer questions they won't generally get points for this activity. When this descriptor talks about complex information it's only about being able to understand literally a couple of sentences "Yes I'd like a cup of tea please. I will have milk in it and one sugar", it's not about understanding anything difficult like quantum physics...
The bar to get points for reading is also very high - if someone can read two sentences they won't generally get points for this activity. Problems with remembering and concentration are not taken into account.
So with this in mind it is probably unlikely that someone with MLD would get points in these areas because of the fact that the bar is much higher than people think.
I hope that helps?
All the best.
