Feeling Anxious

Hi Everyone, just want to say I’m still around. Life has kind of got in the way and now COVID-19 is here I’m feeling rather anxious as I currently work for the NHS, I am in the part of the NHS where I have to clean ventilators and other respiratory equipment. I also have my condition (Hydrocephalus and Cerebrospinal fluid). I’m kind of anxious about having to clean ventilators that may be infected by the Patients and how it may affect me.
I have tried to do a bit of research but cant find anything about it having an effect on my condition. I spoke to my managers and said I feel slightly uncomfortable about doing this at the moment and they are understanding. They said they would need to speak to their manager and Occy Health about what I would be able to do in this situation. I think what I’m feeling is just the fear of the unknown as no one really quite understands it yet and this is I think what I’m afraid of.

That's a really tough one @Tommyb92. I think anyone would be nervous handling the ventilators and respiratory equipment given the current situation. With the added concern that there's so little information on the impact of it on your conditions it's really no wonder you're feeling so anxious.
Have they found other duties for you while they speak to management and Occupational Health?0 -
Hi there @Tommyb92 I agree with @Adrian_Scope it's a very concerning time and the uncertainty certainly doesn't help. Hopefully your team can keep you updated about how to best stay safe at this time. Here if you want to chat.0

Hi @Adrian_Scope - I spoke to Occy Health and they said that there should not be a problem which is a weight off my mind.
On a side note I was meant to be referred to Neurology in UCLH however for some reason the team kept rejecting the referral - I am now chasing that with PALS to find out whats happening - when it rains …..it pours!
Thanks!

Glad you're making some progress at least @Tommyb92. I hope PALS get onto it quickly. How long have you been waiting for referral?0

@Tommyb92 I hope you get the support and protection you need right now. You deserve it, no questions asked.
I was very anxious myself at work a couple of weeks ago and spoke to HR as I felt that I didn't want to be there and be put at risk. They didn't offer much further help and have apparently followed all government guidelines. But in reality none of these things really help how we feel at this time and the anxiety that the risk causes.
Please keep us posted as to how you get on.1 -
Hi All, following on from the PALS intervention, The Service manager has now been in contact with me and has offered me an appointment in a few months time, however this will also mean that if COVID still is around then this may be deferred. I was able to explain the whole situation in an email to the Service manager and its good they've now said that they will see me as its been such a long time
