Hey lovelies,
I hope you are all having a wonderful day!
What’s the best thing you have done during your life so far?
Also what’s your favourite food if you got any?

TheNamesZach:  Thank you for your question! I've been a bit miserable today as I've been in so much pain that I couldn't even eat anything but your question has shifted my mind onto more positive matters!
There are three wonderful things that I can think of in my life:
     1. My son, who is a wonderful young man but since we are about 400 miles apart I hardly ever see and miss very much.
     2. My cat, Lancelot, who sometimes becomes a substitute for my son, I must admit! I'm very lucky, he's a very intelligent cat and pleasant company.
     3. My artwork keeps me going. I have invented an original and unique type of artwork and it cheers me up when I am well enough to lose myself in it!

You also ask about food... Since I am not able to cook anything now, I am just grateful for whatever my Carer can cook for me... Though every now and then I would love a greater variety...

Thanks again for posing the questions! Take care.

    Hi @TheNamesZach
i think perhaps the best thing I did as far as exciting is concerned is I played bass guitar in a few bands, rock mostly, all the practising and arranging and finally the gigging, great fun.
The best other was having a family when I’d finished playing!

my favourite food is Chinese, especially special fried rice, love it.

    how about you?

leeCal, your last comment brought back a memory that made me laugh. When I was pregnant I kept craving Chinese food - no idea why, I'm definitely not Chinese!

Wow thank you for being the first to answer! Sorry that you’re having a bad day today but I hope these bad days doesn’t out weigh the good ones!
Even though your son is 400 miles from you , I’m glad that you are still in contact with him and I’m glad your cat keeps you company, animals are amazing when it comes to that!
I’m also glad you’ve got yourself a hobby to invest yourself in! Even though I’m terrible at art myself , I do appreciate the art people do!
I’m glad that you’re appreciative of your carers cooking! Is there a favourite carers meal you like? Lol ?

    speak soon x

TheNamesZach: one of my favourite dishes is a Greek dish called Pastichio. Basically it's roasted pasta with a layer of lamb mince, topped with bechamel cream. I would have the vegetarian version, where mushrooms are used instead of mince. I mentioned this to my Carer once and she said we don't have enough time for her to cook this for me. But, bless her, she cooked some at home for her family and brought me a plate the next day! I'm very lucky with my Carer, she's a very kind lady.

@Oxonlady that’s amazing! I’ve only been to a Greek restaurant once and it was amazing!
It’s good that you have such lovely carers like that! Carers like that need to be safe and cloned!

Sorry for not sharing my favourite food, I think it must be a kebab or McDonald’s! Both so unhealthy I know ? x

The best thing I ever did was learning to drive. I learnt late at 23. I put it off as I am not able to do anything or go anywhere so I thought it was pointless driving because I never needed to go anywhere. I didn't consider that driving in itself can be a pleasure. Now I go for a drive every day just for fun. I don't regret much of what I have done but I do regret not learning to drive at 17. :)

    Hi @TheNamesZach
Welcome to the community, great to have you with us. I really like your questions, they encourage people to really think and reflect particularly the one regarding the best thing you have ever done. In answer to your questions,  I have been very blessed to have done some amazing things in my life but I think the best thing I have done so far, and I know this sounds strange, is making peace with my disability. It took me a long time but as I have gradually done this, it has opened my horizons to new possibilities which in turn have been fantastic.  My favourite food is fish and chips, I have it every time I go to the pub :) I've started to do a pub crawl for fish and chips to discover the best one! :) How about you, what is the best thing you have done?  Thank you.

Hi! I am new here so I don't really know anyone but...hm the best thing? Probably going to the university I'm at, I think, and the good things I've experienced there. The friends I've made and philosophy is really fulfilling. I am lucky that I've found people who accept me and stick with me, even though they have to wait for me when I'm bad at socialising. Which is most of the time... I am very lucky with them.

My favourite food is so difficult! I love smoked haddock. There was always a local fish van that went round my grandparents town, and that was always really special. My mum cooks it the same way so I think both the memories and the food itself makes it so good

Studying philosophy sounds really interesting. What kind of topics do you cover at degree level?

I want to go to university when I feel able to and philosophy is at the top of the list of subjects I am considering. I studied it at A level and found it really interesting and the thinking techniques I have found useful in everyday life - it has made me more neutral and able to consider both sides of an argument without taking sides.

The only downside I can think of is that I worry it is not the most useful subject from a career point of view, maybe you can correct me on that.

Hi! I'm not too sure what would be the best thing. I feel like my life hasn't quite been what I wanted or expected and my mental health and autism have gotten in the way a few times. I worked on an organic farm in Denmark for two months and then again in Italy the year after and that was fun. Sustainability is one of my biggest passions so it was really fun to get hands on experience and taught me a lot for my own garden.

You all have such interesting hobbies and interests! Philosophy is one of my favourite subjects but I wasn't able to study it. I love history too, I studied Latin for a few years and found it so interesting. A fewmusicians too which I have always thought was amazing! I don't have a musical bone in me haha

My favourite food is probably lasagne. Veggies and spicy cheese for the sauce

I think one of the best things I've done so far is see pretty much all of my bucket list artists. I go to a lot of concerts and when I was 16 I set myself a list of seven or eight that I would love to see above all others, and I've managed to see them all now. I'm drafting up my second concert bucket list now.

Also @kaiasparrow great choice with lasagne, it's my favourite food :)

Sorry I haven't been here for a few days. It's actually really broad! There's a philosophy of everything! There can be historic period-based modules, like ancient greek, or early modern period. Or philosopher specific ones, like aristotle, nietzsche, kant. And topical based ones, like philosophy of mind, perception or language. Ethics can be part of it too. Over the course of my degree, I have done logic, ancient philosophy, early modern philosophy, aristotle, nietzsche, Rousseau feminist philosophy, philosophy of language, history of ethics, (general) ethics. Uhh that's all I can remember right now.  I'm specialising in Aristotle's ethics.

For everyone interested: if you want to learn about philosophy in general, 'In our time' on bbc iplayer are brilliant podcasts, 'Natalie Hayman reads the classics' is good for ancient roman and greek thinkers. Stanford encyclopedia of philosophy is a good way of exploring different topics that you want to find out more about. I think that would keep you going for a while :P

With careers, it honestly depends. Like if you want to go into a career that has a specific undergrad requirements, then that's true. If you firmly don't want to do a postgraduate qualification of some kind, that limits things a bit. If you do, you can go into pretty much anything. I'm intending to either go into academic mentoring or occupational therapy via a postgrad thing. It depends what you want to specialise in too. But actually, employers value philosophy graduates because the skills we have are analysis, independent research, writing skills, being able to weigh up strengths and weaknesses of different positions and find solutions to them. So we end up with a load of wide-ranging, valuable skills. I'd say philosophy has one of the broadest potential career paths and the skills we have can go a long way, depending on how much education you want to do. If you're worried, if you look at universities, I recommend you contact a member of the department and they'll be happy to talk about it with you! This got far too long - I'm so sorry.

Oh and York is excellent for disability support
