hi there I am new to the site and have a 14 year old daughter with cp.  She is experiencing a lot of anxiety around school work as she struggles to keep up with what the school are setting for her.  She was like this before lockdown as well.   She struggles with friendships and is feeling very down.  Does anyone have any advice?  The school are doing what they can
, She is attending school and finds that easier but still gets frustrated and angry with herself when she can't keep up.
Thank you in advance

hi @Steph56 and welcome to scope, have you spoke to the school could they make it easier for her to keep up and give her a feeling of having kept up?

Welcome to the community @Steph56 :)

I'm sorry that your daughter is struggling at the moment. I'd echo what woodbine has said regarding speaking to the school about struggling to keep up with the work. They should be able to offer her some additional support.

Has she ever spoken to anyone about her anxiety, feeling down, and struggling with friendships? Friendships can be particularly difficult to form and maintain for many people at the moment, but others are benefiting from being able to attend online events and keep in touch with their friends remotely. Is she apart of any online social groups? If not, would she be interested in attending any, such as an online choir?

I'll tag our Specialist Information Officer for CP in here, as he might have some further advice or insight for you @Richard_Scope.

Thank you both for your replies.  The school are doing what they can.  The suggestion of online groups o
Is a good one, I'll see if she's up for that. I feel helpless at the moment though , just hoping her anxiety is something that will get better with time

    Hi @Steph56
Thanks for posting. Boy, it's been a really rough time for kids and the parents.
Being 14 is a really horrible age, I can just about remember it. Has your daughter opened up about the root of the anxiety? What we do know is that due to the neurological damage people with CP are more susceptible to anxiety, couple that with teenage angst and you have a mix that's not nice.
If you email me richard.luke@scope.org.uk, I have some activities that I can send to you, that might help.
