Hello, I've known about Scope and used their online advice for a while, but am just joining the forum now. Daniel is 2 and a half, and we're moving house so looking for a new nursery. Last time we didn't have a diagnosis and his needs weren't all that different to other children his age. It would be great to hear any advice on choosing a nursery!

Welcome to the community @loren00 :)

Just to let you know, I've moved your post into the parents and carers category, and renamed it slightly so that other members can find it more easily.

    Hi and welcome

I would suggest just visiting the nursery with your son sed how he fits in and maybe if they have any feedback from other parents

Also what extra support they can offer do they have staff trained in dealing with children with CP

I will tag in our CP adviser @Richard_Scope can you advise here

    Hi @loren00
Good to meet you. Has your son's need changed since his previous nursery? Did the previous nursery mange to cater to all of his needs, or did you feel they could have done more? These are questions that I would ask before I go to view new nurseries.

Hi everyone, thanks for the welcome and advice!

These are all useful things to ask. I've had a few calls and visits so far. The main thing is we have found a place we think will suit him

I notice a huge difference between the best and worst places. One nursery actually backtracked and said they didn't have a place after all, after I mentioned Daniel's CP/walker. I will contact them (once I'm less annoyed!) and explain what they should be doing instead. I'll check the forums for any advice on disability awareness training, legal obligations etc.

Other places have been great - really positive about including Daniel, accessing funding, and making other adjustments. One of these is in a 3-storey Victorian house, yet they were really constructive and had lots of good ideas - it just shows the right attitude goes a long way! I will let them know how much it's appreciated.

Hope everyone's having a lovely day!
