Hello
I needed some advice about LCWRA. I was recently awarded it after waiting nearly 6 months since i sent my form in. I first put in a fit note last November 2020 and continued until recently. I read online that UC should backdate that to when I first put a fit note on my journal BUT I got a letter today saying that they only owe me a months money...I'm confused here I read on CAB website that is what you are supposed to do from when you first make them aware of your condition is putting a fit note in and it should be backdated to that date! I wanted to double check that advice is correct before I do a Mandatory Reconsideration as i think UC are wrong!

There is a three month waiting period, so you are paid the LCWRA element from the fourth month after you started handing in fit notes.
Not sure where your reading on CAB, but their website states the following.
https://www.citizensadvice.org.uk/benefits/universal-credit/claiming/getting-universal-credit-if-youre-sick-or-disabled/If you don’t have LCW or LCWRA from a previous benefit claim, you’ll start getting the extra money in your fourth or fifth payment.

Hi there
There is a full 3 month assessment period waiting time so not knowing your assessment dates I would presume nov wouldn't count as fit note may not cover all period
So dec -jan , Jan-feb and feb to march would be waiting periods
March to April 1st payment due to be paid in Apr payment
So yes it is correct you will get Apr as backpay and then may
Hope this makes sense0 -
Ah i understand now...Its very confusing as the old system would backdate you to the date you put in fit notes etc0

Hi @Maz_Nol. The old system equivalent would have been ESA which has a 3 month 'assessment phase', so the extra for being in the support group (or LCWRA) wouldn't have been paid from the date of fit note either.Maz_Nol said:Ah i understand now...Its very confusing as the old system would backdate you to the date you put in fit notes etc0
