Petrol drivers?

I find it very strange how last time there was a shortage of petrol and every body panic bought which lasted about 2 weeks.
This time we have the petrol but no way to get it to the pumps?
The government knew this was comming yet instead of during the pandemic and the call for everyone to get bac to normal working, what happened to th drivers that were delivering the petrol before then if they were furloughed off?
If the government were using " agency workers " who needed to work and got jobs in say Tescos or any other trade other than what they were trained for.  ( HGV DRIVING ) were is the call for thise drivers to be rehired?  Why as a fix now are the army who were over in Afgan. fighting for the country who were all re-patriated back in Britain who were HGV drivers over there ( and I know of 5 drivers now working for Tescos who did 3 tours there. )  to fill the gap while people in this country are mobalised to fill the shortages and get employment back up?
Its because they get more working on the checkouts than doing their jobs without the stress of overnight travelling and sleeping out many nights a week.  Its not all about the money because they do get a good wage, but its about job satisfaction and being with the family, that a few bob more is not worth it.
Maybe employers will realise that the hire and fire and rehire does not work when you now look and see you may have done them a favour and made them revaluate there jobs?  This goes for all?

Yes job satisfaction and work life balance is what people are after the catering industry is short of staff who wants to work evenings and weekends when their friends are having time off enjoying theirselves. This pandemic has let people see and realise what they snd others do or did for a living. Some continued to work from home others on furlough paid for doing diy round they house garden those working from home watching annoyed. We have all learned a lot about each other’s life styles and what we need or don’t  need. Essential and luxuries the money people have saved by not eating out having takeout meals no holidays. Everyone has cash in the bank now they have got used to spending less and this they now know is their new normal way of live.

They are asking drivers who used to drive to come back to it problem is depends why they stopped  doing it and if the government are going to give them an incentive to come back to hgv driving

The comment on TV this morning was 3 years ago we were 20,000 short now its 100,000 drivers short.
What I want to know is where have all the lorry's that were being used to deliver groceries to the big stores, petrol, building materials, the list goes on.  The Idea of comming out of the E U was to become self sufficent.  Or as the government would say not to have the laws set by some one else that they had no control over.  Like the Human Rights  Act.  Laws set in europe free movement of Labour, Pensions some this government did not want.

@onebigvoice untill the UK can do what we relied on the EU to do which is why we joined the EU we will struggle to be self sufficient  as we are finding out untill the UK start training people to do skilled jobs not just tanker or lorry driving then we will always be in a mess

Where I work one of our fridges have gone down we know the part we need but can't get it here as its made in the EU and we can't get the part because they csnt make them here

I was just wondering since the petrol and diesel is now getting through and people have, if they ever did, panic buy, why since there was bever a shortage of petrol why it has not dropped back down to £1.33 or less?
What happened to all the petrol that Trump bought when he said to keep the economy turning he would buy any amount produced?
