    Hello good people, My contract was terminated today because of incapacity, long term sickness. they have told me I may well get some owed sick pay and holiday pay at the end of this or next month. I know I will have to declare it to universal credit, do I have to do the same for ESA? I understand there are two types of ESA earnings related and the other???? Sorry for being so vague. I do not know the difference between the two.

    If you are claiming both ESA and UC then the ESA is contribution based or new style ESA which are not means tested so the holiday and sick pay makes no difference. The payments will be reported by your employer to HMRC who will report them to UC and they will be taken into account in the normal way as earnings and reduce the UC payable (possibly to nil).

    You should however report the change of circumstances in your employment through your UC journal.

    Hello Calcotti. Thank you for that. I have sent universal my updated circumstances. I have not received a penny from UC since I applied because I have a bit of a pension coming in. Still what you have told me makes absolute sense. Thank you again.

    ESA and pension income are deducted in full from the UC payable.
    Have you had a Work Capability Assessment for UC?
