Any new years resolutions?

I have a few, I'm not one to usually do new year resolutions but I want next year 2022 to be different and better for me and everyone.
I want to learn to love myself more and put what I need /want into practice.
I want to find myself and what makes me happy instead of just concentrating on everything and everyone else around me and letting myself suffer. So love to you all and please stay safe. ❤️🙏

My daughter and I have been discussing resolutions a lot lately and earlier today she showed me two articles about why setting New Year's resolutions (even if you don't end up keeping to them) is thought to be beneficial.
To poorly summarise: setting resolutions gives you an opportunity to reflect on where you are now and steps you need to take to achieve any goals, which is a great thing for anyone to do. They provide a sense of hope and optimism and the act of making them and taking efforts to achieve them will likely have a positive impact, too.
I haven't fact-checked the claims and they weren't peer-reviewed papers, but I can see the logic behind the suggestions and it gave us both some food for thought.
I suppose that might depend on what you class as 'meaningful'!Username_removed said:Could someone find me an article somewhere - anywhere - about someone who made a meaningful New Years resolution and achieved it.

I may not always set a full blown resolution but I try to do something different that I want to do on a regular basis.Last year I’d set myself the goal of keeping a journal as I’d wanted to do so for a long time, I wanted to be able to reflect and have the opportunity to go back and it was a good way to manage my mental health.Did I stick to it? Yes I actually did, I wrote a few sentences each day, I also had a monthly recap, and also recorded any further goals for the future. This helped me enormously and I now have a record for the last 12 months.Did I find it helpfioful? Absolutely I did, I needed somewhere to get things onto paper and a chance to review day to day and look back. Last year was the best year I had in terms of mental health and managing symptoms.Recommend it? I do, but it was a commitment having to do this each day and then also doing the monthly recap. So it’s dependant on each person. There are absolutely people that would have set resolutions and met them of course there are, but I doubt an article was written on each person to share with others.YouGov research also suggests some people do set them and stick to them, although a small amount - https://yougov.co.uk/topics/lifestyle/articles-reports/2020/12/30/new-years-resolutions-2020-and-20213

My new years resolution when my father died was to stop smoking I went cold turkey and stopped without the cutting down that was 13years ago and I haven't smoked since4

My nyr is to not come on the forum as much and not to reply to any posts other than general discussions
There are others with more knowledge and no point putting my two pennies in
This will be now one of few posts I respond to
I want to find a new challenge for myself maybe writing or study
Happy new year to you all and stag safe4 -
New year resolution have been round for years you either do it or you don't its no big thing bit of fun if anything does it matter Mike why people do it2

I think your New Year's resolution is rather a shame @janer1967 - I also know there are people with far more experience than I on the forum, yet I post as there're not always about, or posting to someone else in the meanwhile. The number of times I've posted at just about the same time as Poppy I know have been numerous, or Mike, who often adds extra info too, & there are others..... However, imagine being a newcomer to the forum, & if a couple or more people are saying something similar, then does that not give more credence as to what is being said? Also you have years of experience with HR, so again a shame not to use it. If you are hoping to spend more time doing something different, I understand, & that's fine, but, as someone who has helped contribute positively on the forum, I hope the reasons you've given above are not why.Wishing you, & everyone here a Happy New Year.

Mike your comment is a direct comment saying that it's not a motivation makeing new year resolutions it doesn't realy matter why people make them they do for whatever reason0
-
I wasn't targeting you it was because of what your comment said0
-
As you know Mike things can be read differently the way you put your comment makes it look like it is wrong but now you have explained it that is more understandable when I said people do it for a laugh I wasn't referring to everyone my friends new year resolution was to stand on her head for ten mins lol
I made my resolution because my father died from cancer caused by smoking I probably stuck to it because death scares me lol
