Hi there I have dyspraxia and struggle with certain things. These things involved being to start friendships or relationships. This is because I struggle on how to start conversations and can be awkward on what to say and when the time is right to say those things

@woodbine Yeah I know the feeling

It can definitely be difficult to know how to start conversations, and what to say @steviegreeny. I agree that chatting on online communities such as ours can be a good way of practicing speaking to new people, starting conversations, and finding common ground with strangers.
Do you have any hobbies or interests? Would you feel comfortable joining a club or group? It can sometimes be easier to form new relationships face to face when you know you already have something in common with them, and can chat with them while doing an activity to take some of the pressure off. -
Yeah I think it would better if I joined some kind of club or group. I do have some hobbies, I’m a gamer and like playing all kinds of video games. I do enjoy going out with people and having fun when I have people to do it with. I’m very much into things like Star Wars, Harry Potter and superheroes

Hi @steviegreeny and welcome to the community I have a friend with dyspraxia who is an avid gamer, and I know he enjoys getting involved with a few gaming groups.
I think it's important to find what you're most comfortable doing, and not try to do too many social things at once. Start with something small, and perhaps go from there- joining the community here is a really good first step.
Is there a gaming/comic shop anywhere near you? Often they run gaming nights or have social events, so that might be worth looking into.

Hi @steviegreeny
Thanks for reaching out to us. I always appreciate how much courage it takes to reach out.
It is okay to struggle. We all struggle sometimes with different things. Some people just struggle more than others, unfortunately.
In line with what has already been recommended, I am wondering if you might find it easier to socialise over activities?
Some people find this more manageable as they find that conversation comes more naturally when at least two people are participating in the same thing at the same time.

@Alex_Scope I have looked for any gaming/comic stores near me but unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any
-
Oh that's a shame @steviegreeny, are you part of any online gaming communities?Online Community Coordinator
