Hi guys! Hope everyone is well!
I applied for pip back at the end of July after I was awarded lcwra with uc.. I had an assessment and my report was received on the 21/12.. total understanding of every one being different but has anyone had any similar situation and how long has everyone waited for a decision or backdated payment? Â My report gives me points of 11 daily and 10 mobility.Â

Can be as long as 3 months.

Hi
I can confirm that the PIP application process was a terrible experience for me and many others who go through it.
I applied initially and then again via a so say continuation and the second time although I had clear evidence of a declining health condition they awarded me less then the first instance.
Along with support from my Dad I've become daily slick at understanding how best to get the truthfull and fair outcome deserved though the 2nd application required a drawn out process over 18 months, and frequent communications between high level dwp compalint managers, my local MP, (this helped hugely) and finally the provision of very supportive letters from my doctor and my specialist who actually used the words 'unfortunate to have a worsening condition that has now left him permanently disabled' this tipped the balance for me and in the end I got an extended award period.
This process is painful but with the right support and advice it can be navigated......slowly!
Good luck 👍0 -

Apart from the questions about how long is
- the wait for an assessment
- the decision after an assessmentÂ
- it until arrears are paid
If there were a page dealing with these issues anybody posting a question about them could be referred to it.0 -
In some ways I agree with Mike about the search function; it is a little better is all I can say, as I also use it, but it's not prominently visible, & the most recent comments don't necessarily come up first.Another workaround might be that some 'sticky' posts are made for some sections, particularly as regards benefits, which seem to be the main topic of debate, or a FAQ section.0

As some of you are in the co production group could this not be mentioned thereÂ0

A good point @janer1967 - & worth mentioning. However we're normally asked what do you think about a,b,c? not normally asked about any opinions we might have about the community.

It would be great if Scope invested more in user involvement and engagement. I’ve seen this work really well on other sites, with other charities and organisations.Â0

Apologies to go off topic, but I just wanted to respond about the search function on the community. Since the community re-themed a few months ago, the search function is better than it was previously but still has room for improvement. It's functionality isn't something we have control over at present, though we do feed back about it in the hope that it can be improved further. In terms of positioning, we could alter that but would have to consider the impact on the rest of the community, for example the mobile version of the site is quite tightly shaped at the moment so moving the search bar would cause everything else to be moved around too.
If anybody has any feedback about the new look of the community, you can use this thread to let us know.
The search bar and categories pages are there as options for members to find the information they are looking for, as well as the information pages on the main Scope website and wider sources online, but members are also always welcome to create a discussion on whatever subject it is. Often, while the overall question may be something that gets asked often on the community, there are other strands to each individual situation that make them all unique and everybody deserves the opportunity to create their own thread to discuss their circumstances. It also offers other members the chance to give their perspective and experience, which can be important with subjects like benefits to show that others are going through similar things to us. Though yes, I do appreciate that repeating the same information or advice may get frustrating.
@chiarieds you are more than welcome to create a discussion in the co-production group category about areas that you feel need discussing. Of course, you can get in touch via email too and we can arrange a conversation around it.

Thank you @Ross_Scope - your comment to myself is most welcome.

It's a real shame that the DWP can't offer some sort of online timeline with expected waiting times in your area at the time of checking. It's the uncertainty that many people struggle with and I think they genuinely feel better just by posting asking about waiting times.
I've been on here about two and a half years now, I check the site regularly, I try to help people on other (non-benefits) forums with PIP advice and I know in my rational mind that there are no real timescales and just how long the waits could be...yet I've still had to stop myself starting threads asking about waiting times in my area!Â
I'm not actually in a rush as I currently have an award, I don't mind waiting (knowing that I could lose what I have now), I just wish I had a timescale so I knew roughly when to expect it.

I think that would be really useful, as you say the uncertainty is what many people struggle with, I know I certainly have in the past when reflecting on my personal experience. I'm not sure how likely it is that we'll ever have such a tool in place, but it's a great idea nevertheless and would absolutely help people feel a bit less anxious about it.ÂOverlyAnxious said:It's a real shame that the DWP can't offer some sort of online timeline with expected waiting times in your area at the time of checking. It's the uncertainty that many people struggle with and I think they genuinely feel better just by posting asking about waiting times.

I think even with an online timeline it wouldn’t be helpful. Waiting times aren’t just due to backlogs. Some cases take longer than others and even when someone is in the same area waiting times can vary hugely.
I have a friend that lives in the same area as me and she applied for PIP in August, the same time as her daughter. She had a decision on her claim last week, while her daughter has yet to have her assessment and they live together.1 -
The problem with that is that, even if feasible, any guideline could then become an expectation which when not met could cause even more stress.ÂOverlyAnxious said:It's a real shame that the DWP can't offer some sort of online timeline with expected waiting times in your area at the time of checking.
