Hi got my letter saying no to pip. Only took her 3 days to make the decision as the letter is dated the 20th Jan I had phone assessment on the 17th. There are definite discrepancies in the letter not that there is much in the letter. Any help or advice for mandatory reconsideration will be greatly appreciated 🙏 xx

    Hi @LauraJayne

    How are you?

Thanks for posting, sorry to hear that your PIP claim wasn't successful at this initial stage. Just to clarify, do you have the decision letter or just a copy of the assessor's report?

To get the ball rolling with the MR, you can either:

    • send a completed mandatory reconsideration request (CRMR1 form)
    • write a letter telling them why you disagree with their decision

If you choose to write a letter, make sure you include all the information required by the online form. You can access the form by following this link.

If you want to challenge the decision, you have one month from the date on your decision letter to request the MR, though this can be extended if needed.

Scope have an information page here about challenging a benefit decision, which you might find useful.

    Thank you.
Just the decision letter I've had. Very surprised on how quick it took her to decide that I'm not entitled to it. Thank you I will write a letter over the weekend

Yes that is a quick turn around @laurajayne, but I hope the MR goes well. Ensure to have a look through the letter and identify where you think you should have scored points. You can then detail those as part of your letter and back up your points with anecdotal evidence.

you should also request a copy of your assessment report and see the reasons why you where denied PIP and on what the HP reported for each of the 12 descriptors. Having this information will help you compile your MR giving examples and reasons why you are unable to complete each descriptor safely repeatedly and in a timely manner.

The assessment report is not needed when requesting the MR. all it can do is distract you from concentrating on what is required.
The reasons why you were denied are In the decision letter.
