I ve been trying for days and days to get through to the PIP advice line 0800 121 4433to ask for a new certificate of entitlement to PIP and hence free road tax because I 've changed my car.
The garage wont accept the old one as its been stamped with the previous car reg and wouldn't let me take the car untaxed.
I m prepared to wait patiently on th phone but after all the options, recorded message told me to hang up. HELP I m also deaf and wear 2 hearing aids so its doubly hard.

Hi @Claudia and welcome to the online community, how are you?
Unfortunately it can take a long time to get through to the call handlers sometimes, we've all experienced those lengthy waits in the past. What time of day do you tend to call? you may just be catching them at their most busy point.
When you say the recorded message told you to hang up, what do you mean exactly if you don't mind me asking? Did it suggest hanging up because of a long queue? This is a very supportive and welcoming site to be a part of so I’m hopeful that you’ll find it to be a positive outlet. Feel free to have a look around and get involved wherever you’d like 😊 I have included below a few of the pages I’d recommend having a look through to get used to things:
- The virtual coffee lounge which is one of our categories, in which we play games and talk about general subjects such as hobbies and interests
- The recent discussions page, which shows an overview of everything happening across the community
- The categories page, which shows a full list of discussion groups on the community
If you have any questions at all then don’t hesitate to ask.

thank you, the recorded message said "Please hang up now."
I might have pressed a wrong number option (looking back,) so I tried again at 11.00 am this day. After the various push button options I must have channelled the right one. Got a music waiting line which looking back is very good news as it seems to mean you're nearly there, through to a real advisor!
After 38 mins waiting listening to the music and taking advice from my son to put phone to speakerphone and "go about my normal jobs and business", I got through to an advisor who simply said "Yes no problem, I ll send you out a new certificate today."
Job done.
Advice to others, when you get through to the music wait after the press tone options from the DWP, you're nearly there but be prepared to wait at least 45 mins, any shorter is a bonus.
Thank you forum for your prompt support
