Hi Everyone
My apologies for not being more present on the forum during the last 12 months, but I have not been too well in my health. I am just hoping some of the more experienced members can help me with an upcoming issue. I am going to be collecting my State Pension from later this year and I am currently claiming UC for both me and my Wife. I have substantial physical disabilities following 2 knee replacements, upper disc replacements and 1 hip replacement. I also have a continual sprain to my lower back and suffer issues with prolapsed discs in my lower back. As a top-up, I also suffer with clinical depression.
I do not know how the transition will affect rent and council tax etc. I have heard I will still actually be on UC, which I don't want, as I dread them calling me in (although I am in the Support Group and do not get hassled to be honest). I also claim PIP and my Wife claims Carer's Allowance for me. I have a feeling it will be a case of like for like as they certainly do not want people to come out any better off. I was also given low rate of Ind Disablement Benefit for life many years ago.
I am not greedy by any means, but I would love to be just a little better off so we can  maybe buy a pizza or takeaway once a week or so.
Anyway, as mentioned, my apologies for not taking part on a more regular basis. Health permitting, that will hopefully change going forward.
Best Regards:-Hugh

Because you are in Support Group/LCWRA you have no UC requirements. Once you reach pension age there are no requirements even if you were fit for work.

Your State Pension will be deducted in full from the UC which means that your joint income will remain exactly the same (unless your SP is more than your existing UC amount).

Hi @safc :) There's no need to apologise! You're welcome to dip into the community whenever you feel up to it. That being said, it's great to hear from you. I'm sorry to hear that you've been experiencing some ill health. Would you feel comfortable telling us a little more about that?

I hope that calcotti has been able to answer your question about state pension and Universal Credit. If there's anything you're still unsure about, please do let us know.
