Hello I've just been awarded PIP by text message but it just says I've been awarded it and will get a letter in the next 2 weeks, I just wondered has anyone else had this ? and how long did it take before first payment came through? i'm just really struggling financially, thankyou.

Yes, they've started sending texts to those who are successfully awarded. If it's first time claim and you're not transferring from DLA then money owed usually goes into your bank 3-5 working days after it's paid.
Then you'll receive the decision letter shortly after that. I would expect you to receive what's owed by the end of next week.

thankyou poppy for your reply, that's a relief to know, I waited on the phone to pip for 93 mins today and then got cut off  :s:s Do you receive any back pay from the start of your claim with your first payment? sorry I have no idea how it works, thanks nat

If it’s first time claim and you had your conditions for at least 3 months then it’s paid from the date you rang to start your claim.

yes it was a first time claim, for my mental health problems, my dad applied 6 weeks before me as he had a heart attack and has a list of health problems but hasn't heard anything yet so he's abit concerned, i said its probably because they have so much evidence to go through with my dad whereas with me it was just my GP and psychiatrist  letter, thanks poppy

Welcome to the community @nattyb :) Well done on getting through the PIP process. Fingers crossed you'll be happy with the award once the decision letter comes through.

Are you receiving enough support to help you manage your mental health conditions at the moment?

Waiting times do vary, but hopefully your dad will receive his decision letter soon too. How's he been doing since having his heart attack? I can imagine that would have been a challenging time for you both.

thanks tori, yes i wasn't expecting to be awarded it at all! i know a few people who have said its harder to get with mental health conditions sometimes?, yes I am seeing a counselor weekly thanks, and medications are helping to keep me stable at the moment, my dad is doing okay now thanks, he just has a list as long as his arm of health elements and hes rattling with meds but hes ok, I just hope his pip goes as well as mine did, I'm just waiting for payment now after i got the text saying i'd been awarded it, i have very little money left so hoping it goes in soon :(

People with a range of conditions can find it hard to get PIP, but we've definitely heard from other people who live with mental health conditions who've struggled to access it unfortunately, yes @nattyb.

I hope that the counselling and medication is helping! It's good to hear that you have some support in place already.

Fingers crossed it'll go in soon. Do you have enough to be able to get your essential items, such as food and your medication?

I'm glad that your dad is getting on okay :)

thanks tori, yes I know it can be very difficult as mental health affects people in so many different ways, I actually had a panic attack during my assessment and had to take some diazepam so in a way its good that she saw that as awful as it was. Yes I've been having counselling since very early teens, it helps abit i guess. I have enough to last a few days and im praying it goes in very soon, not had the decision letter yet though.. just the text saying id been awarded it but no idea how much and when it will be paid. By the way I love your pic, the cat is beautiful, I have 2 cats :)
