Hi, I've just had a email from Eon, I'm totally confused, as I don't get readings and stuff. The email said

  • A standing charge of 50.52p per day and 26.31p/kWh for each unit of electricity.
Can anyone decipher that?

    Is that your new rate?

I'm not sure how to make it any clearer though.  Basically you'll have to pay 50p every day before using any electricity (that's a standing charge).  Then 26p for each unit used, units are what the electricity meter reads.

Lol, not that bad thankfully!  It's still about double what it was last year though.

Splitting pence into decimals does make it confusing when written down.  We don't even still have half pennies in real money, of course.

I think raising the standing charge is disgusting, why do that?!

Also I can’t find eons rate by googling, so I went on their website and searched for it using my my address and it wouldn’t work. Why do I have o use my address and postcode, I thought the rates were the same all over the country!

im with eon by the way and haven’t had an email.

They havnt given the gas charges just electric
The standard charge is for the pre payment meter, I use that to save getting big bills every 3 months or so

I find it very difficult to work out what I’m paying let alone what I will pay. I’ve been trying for two days now. The average cap is not what I’ll pay I know that because we use less than average, that’s all I know.

The rates are not the same across the country.  Energy infrastructure and demand is different in different areas.

You can see your current rate on your electricity bill, or online or via the app.

I haven't had an email about rate increases either yet.  My current standing charge is 36p per day.

The honest answer is that you can't really work out what you'll be paying, none of us know how much more prices will rise.

The best you can do currently is work out a monthly average based on previous electricity bills.

Obviously standing charge is easy, that's just 30 x 36p or 50p or whatever yours is.

It's the unit usage that's more difficult to estimate as that's so variable.  If you use electric heating that raises the winter month bills for example.  You might also a cooker or tumble drier more in winter.  So really you need to use a whole years worth of bills to get a more accurate idea of unit usage.  I'm on dual tariff so it's even more difficult to estimate.

    Thank you @OverlyAnxious, I understand.

i was going to say it’s a real worry but then I remembered what the Buddha said, something like if you can do something about it why worry, if you can’t do something about it why worry. Either way no need to worry.
    Makes sense.

The only email I got from E-ON today was ‘see what great deals we have for you to fix’ haha.

Also, if any of you have your annual estimated usage figures it may be worth doing this calculator to simplify things:

@woodbine if its like British gas the £66 payment works like this

You pay your dd say its £50 per month then a couple days after they credit your bank with the £50 the remaining £16 is then credited to your energy account to be used when the 6 month period is ended so you will have roughly £96 credit to pay the next couple months dd so in essence you won't  have any energy cost for 8 months

According to sky news reporting on what a national organisation has calculated state pensioners will be trying to live on less than £11 a day shortly.

Personally I’m surprised it will be that much!

    Hi,
For those who are interested in how much elastic trickery a machine uses, this site provides a good tool.  Scroll down to the "Select Item" drop down where you can select one of the items provided.  Of for those who know the wattage of an item, can fill the boxes in yourself.  Whichever way you choose, you`ll need your pence per Kwh:

Actually @Sandy_123 I think it means £11 a day to pay for food, council tax, water rates etc etc, £77 a week isn’t that much after all council tax alone could be £25/30 a week. Not sure.

Lisa, having checked the rates once again you are paying way over the amounts set for October onwards in particular to your gas. Just wanted to let you know for reference.
