My son has autism. He goes to a tiny independent school. The LEA have turned him down for an EHC as they say he needs an ed psych report. The school will not provide this as they have limited funds. The LEA says that we have to pay it as parents. Are there any organisations who could fund this or help us to fund it?

Hi ejaleigh, I don't know but will try to find out for you and will come back to you with (hopefully) an answer in the next couple of days.
You may be able to contact your local authority ed psych team directly to request the assessment. Definitely worth giving them a call!

    Hello ejaleigh,
In answer to your question, you can try the charities IPSEA or SOS SEN. You can also contact the local authority EP service directly to ask them to assess your child. They cannot refuse to accept a parent referral but they will not necessarily agree to an assessment if they do not feel it is appropriate. If they do agree, you may be waiting a long time due to limited time and resources. You may find useful advice at www.childrenslegalcentre.com. There are also advisory services in local authorities for specific areas, such as autism. Professionals in these teams can provide information for EHCP request, it does not always have to be an EP. Bottom line is that your child is entitled to local authority EP services but what this work entails will be for discussion with the local authority EP.
    Hope this helps,
    Hannah
