I am a parent carer of a almost 30yr old lady who was born with multiple physical and learning disabilities . I am the manager of a parent support group in Rochdale . I have joined scope to offer support and speak to parents who understand me.

Hi there. I am a sister/carer of a 54 year old man who was oxygen deprived at birth. Life has always been difficult for him and with the recent death of our mum and our father being terminally ill, I am starting to feel overwhelmed about how he will cope and what lies ahead. Lovely to find kindred spirits who are willing to support each other. There appears to be very little out there that he/we can access that he feels comfortable with.

Feeling down today, interviewing carers or even trying to find the right person to work with your loved one sometimes just knocks the feet from under you. Xxx God grant me the serenity x

I know what you mean, my son is 26 and has autism and severe learning difficulties. It takes ages for him to get used to new people working with him, he has very little language so new people find it hard. Just when he is starting to get used to them they either leave or the agency that employs them moves them to another house. Interviewing potential carers must be so draining, so hard to tell how someone will be when they are actually working with your son or daughter. Good luck with finding someone.
