Can I get any extra help with covering the cost of home help?
My question is can I get any extra help with covering the cost of home help, as very often I have to have someone stay over as well as do my shopping ect for me. I get highest rate mobility and middle rate care

Hi Didie,
It might be worth getting a benefit check to see if you are receiving everything you should be. You mention PIP and ESA but it is worth checking that you are getting the maximum amounts. Call the Scope helpline on 0808 800 3333 to check details of what agencies in your area can help you with this. They can also ask them to check that your local authority is charging you the correct amount for any services they are providing.

Hi Didie, it's worth checking whether you are getting the correct rate of benefit as my colleague suggested. PIP enhanced mobility is the highest rate but I wonder if you are getting the enhanced rate of the daily living component, and if not, whether you might be entitled - worth asking about.
ESA can be worth a little more if you are in the support group.
Finally it is worth getting your income-based benefits checked to make sure they are correct for your situation, including your rates of PIP. And, as Michael says, you might be able to get advice locally on charging for services. Local authorities are allowed to charge but there are rules about how they should look at your income and expenditure.
