Living with a new partner

I'm recovering from a stroke and where I'm currently living has become untenable and I need to move out of my family home sadly.

I've found a new partner who said I could move in with her.

She works and will this affect my disability payment?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated

Disability benefits such as PIP/ADP/DLA or AA will not be affected. Are you claiming any other benefits, if so which ones? Does your partner claim any benefits, if so which ones?

I'm getting UC and have been approved for DLA. She doesn't claim anything.

    Thanks for your reply 👍

If it's a new disability benefit award then it won't be DLA because that's now ended for new claims for those over the age of 16. Unless you're living in Scotland then it will be PIP. Though neither of them are means tested so will not be affected.

For UC this is means tested so if you live with a partner you will need to report a change of circumstances and tell them you're living with a partner. You will then be sent a linking code. Your partner will then need to start a claim their self and use the linking code to join both claims together. Entitlement will then be based on your joint circumstances. If your partner has more than £16,000 in capital/savings you will be excluded from claiming. You can use a benefits calculator to check entitlement but you'll need to make sure you put both your details into it and make sure you put your partners earnings in. https://www.entitledto.co.uk/benefits-calculator/

I'm partner works and doesn't claim anything. Why would she have to claim.

Sorry for all the questions, but this is all new and very confusing to me.

It was lcwra interview? Is that the same as DLA?

Yes, I know your partner works and doesn't claim any benefits but you're claiming Universal Credit and this is a means tested benefit. This means if you live with a partner you need to claim as a couple. For this you will need to do as I advised in my previous comment, if you live together.

LCWRA is part of UC for those that have a limited capability to work. It's not a disability benefit.
