Hi

I hope everyone is doing well. I hope someone can help I'm starting to worry I have had a migration letter to move from my current benefit ESA and was in the support group. I filled out the online form and have and have been down to the job centre for an interview to verify my identity this was on the 30th of October. today I realised I ticked the wrong box.

The question "Which group are you in for Employment and Support Allowance?" I selected the *No group, I’m in the assessment phase when I should have clicked the "Support group"

I only noticed today as the estimated entitlement I will be awarded in the benefits calculator says "Income-related Employment and Support Allowance worked out £90.50p and Total benefits: £ 210.17 per week.

I changed the option to support group and re did the calculator and it came back Your entitlement is made up of £159.05 this is what I am currently getting.

will they now take my mistake and pay me the lower rate I really dont know what to do Iv been up all night worrying. Thanks for any help

Are you sure there was a question asked about which group you're in when you filled out the form to apply for UC? Usually they don't ask that, unless it's a very recent added question. That part of your claim won't be verified until ESA send your details across to them. Are you confusing that with the benefits calculator you filled in?

Either way, you should put a message onto your journal to tell them you're in the Support Group. They will also ask you to provide fit notes but these are not needed.

Thank you for replying I jest let them know in the online journal and phoned the DWP to make sure they know. The man said I did the right thing after trying to explain although I dont think he knew what I was telling him he just kept said you did the right thing.

    Thank you.

Hi thanks for replying. I am not sure it wasnt until I tried the to see what I was trying to work out how much I was getting on the calculator. I forgot to mention above I told the man on the phone when I went to the interview the woman asked me do i want to make and advance payment I said yes she showed me the screen and how much I would get and to pick how long to pay it back the amount was £818.18 I remember the amount because of the numbers 81818 I asked what is it for she said to pay rent and money to live on for until I move over.

I said my rent was half that and asked how much will I get when I move to new benift she said she cant tell me but pointed to the screen and said thats usually about the amount I will get.

I told the man on the phone and he sounded annoyed and told me she should not have told you that.

    Thank you for the reply

I really do think you are getting confused by the UC claim form and the benefits calculator you filled in.

For the advance payment it's usually your maximum entitlement to UC that you're offered. Once things are verified such as your ESA Support Group award then the advance payment will increase further. As this is a recent new claim you need to wait for ESA to send your details across to them and this can often take a few weeks. Once it's done your claim will be updated.
