6 months before eviction

My landlord is selling my house,

He has given me a 6 month tenancy agreement. Following being here for 12 years. I'm not sure if I should sign it or not given that the agreement appears to be for a new tenancy rather than one 12 years old. With lots of rule changes like decorating etc... When we originally moved in all those years ago I was able to decorate etc... Now because of my disabilities I'm unable to keep up the upkeep of the House. I'm on the council list with a medical priority. But I'm very worried about signing this agreement.

Hi @hmass01, it sounds like he's making the tenancy rules more restrictive because they wish to sell. When it comes to a legal document like a tenancy agreement I would consult with someone specialised in this topic.

I would highly recommend calling Shelter: Get help from Shelter - Shelter England

Do let us know how you are getting on. Have you talked to anyone about the council about your landlord looking to sell and now presenting a new tenancy agreement?

I have spoken to shelter who advised me to speak with the council. Who advised me I'm not yet in danger of being homeless but I can if I wish refuse to sign the agreement. I'm going to see citizens advise in the morning to see what they think. I'm worried signing the agreement will result in me being accused of making myself homeless.

Hi @hmass01, it does sound like it would be a good idea to get some professional advice on this before you sign anything.

If you need any more specialist advice, Advicelocal have a directory to search to see if there's anyone in your area.

I hope Citizens Advice can offer you some support today and clear up what would be the best way forward for you 😊
