Change in amount I get when migrating to UC from ESA
Hi - I wonder if anyone can advise as I'm starting to think I'm losing the plot! I received a migration notice a couple of days ago, saying I need to move from ESA (with LCWRA) to UC. I have done an online calculation to see how much money I could expect to get ,and it's quite a bit less than I'm getting now, despite the reassurance of a 'transitional element '.
The figures I have been given are:-
Weekly benefit entitlement - £491.71.
Transitional element - £236.74.
First UC payment - £1,601.26.
Their UC estimate - £1,364.52 (which is what I get at the moment per month).
But... this payment includes my Housing Benefit,am I correct in thinking? My monthly rent is £580.80,of which I have to pay £80.00 (for bedroom tax). So once I've paid the rent due out of the UC,it leaves me with £1,100.46. A difference of £264.06.
Am I missing something here?!

Hi,
Some things don't seem quite right here.
LCWRA isn't part of ESA. Did you mean you currently get SDP?
Transitional Protection is an ongoing payment, it gets paid every month, not just the first one. It does erode over time, but only when benefits rates increase, or your circumstances change, which could be several years.
UC does include Housing Element, which isn't quite the same as Housing Benefit. I'm unsure whether bedroom tax will still apply the same on HE.

I'd try re doing the benefits calculator, they rely on what you input and if that input is wrong, your results would be wrong.

Thank you for your responses. I'm not sure if I get SDP,I always thought I was on ESA in the support group LCWRA. I will try doing the calculation again,I'm sure I've made a mistake somewhere along the line!

Severe Disability Premium is payable with IR ESA Support Group in certain circumstances
If you'd like assistance with the calculation, help is out there
