I filled out and sent back my UC50 form, back in June 2025. Now the DWP put my claim through as a referral and not as a new claim, for which they have apologised for. They said back in November that they would change it from a referral to a new claim. Now I phoned the WCA and they said that on the 9th march UC told WCA to stop my assessment and send all the paperwork back to uc. Now I've just received today that UC are starting my whole process from the start and are asking me to fill out another uc50 form. I asked if it would still be back dated to June 2025 as thats when I originally filled out the uc50 form. They said no it would be class as a new claim is this correct

Hello so i'm just looking for some advice please, i'm currently in receipt on UC LCWRA with full transitional protection i currently live in a one bedroom place while also being in receipt of enhanced rate pipe care/mobility, i receive financial help within UC towards rent/council tax,

my parent has cancer and is experiencing a full relationship breakdown and is going to have to move, the intention is to remain in the same local authority, my parent and i are in dicussion on what to do, they have been in receipt of UC LCWRA despite having reached pension age this is due to having been a mixed aged couple, so my parent has deffered there pension, due to being in receipt of UC, i know that they have full stamps so they will be entitled to the full pension, they're also on Enhanced daily care on pip and standard mobility component, obviously they're going to have to put in a claim for there pension soon now with the relationship breakdown, my question is when they move we have been considering putting in a request to move together into a 2 bedroom house going forward.

my question is i know given they're in receipt of enhanced rate care of pip they should be entitled to pension credit they dont have any savings, but if we were to get a joint tenancy being relatives how would this impact things?

if they're entitled to pension credit how would this affect the rent payment side of pension credit would they still pay half of the rent or the full amount?

secondly how would my benefits be impacted by this, would my amount be reduced? would i loose my transitional protection, given the protected amount will have been awarded as previously having SDP back on ESA given i live alone,

any advice would be greatly appreciated, trying to figure all of this out,

kind Regards

Rose

Please bear with me I'm incredibly anixous and not coping so well.

I was migrated from esa to uc last year. So I received transitional protection.

My lha is £875 and my rent is £1000 meaning I havd a £125 top up.

My landlord has just informed me that my rent is going up by £125. I know that this will erode my transitional protection but I'm confused about how.

Do they take that money away from me and I have to find the £125 from somewhere else? Like not out of my uc payment. So I'm not only getting a rent increase of £125 but also losing £125 transitional., so I'm down £250???

Or is it taken from transitional, meaning it's not protected any more, but I still can use that money for the rent increase?

Please help I'm sick to my stomach with worry and haven't slept since I found out.

Is it is kinda just moved and the amount is no longer protected but I can still pay rent with it? Or is it totally deleted from my account and my over all figure every month will be £125 less (and with my rent increase, another £150, I'm down £250).

I hope I've explained this ok.

Thank you in advance for your time and help.

sorry for the long post :

Good morning. I am my son’s appointee and the UC was going into my account that like a fool I also used for my own wages etc. however I was paying his bills and transferring the rest of the money in his account. I have uploaded the statements for the said account and also have his bank statements ready as well as the savings accounts mine and his to show not a lot . I have requested an extra link on his journal to add them on. I even printed statements for Revolut and PayPal ( all in my name ).
My question is, how long till they send the extra link? They don’t seem to be responding to anything I asked, should I chase up with phone call? I have also asked them for a little extension, I’ve lost my mother on 08/03 and my head is all over the place. I told them that but still no reply!
Yes, I’ve learned my lesson and contacted the bank for appointment on opening an appointee account in my son’s name only . I genuinely did not know that I could do that , in my mind I thought as everything was done electronically, there would be a clear footprint . Also his girlfriend who lives 4 hours away comes to visit every now and then and has put bits of money in his account while visiting for food ( 110 and 100£ respectively), they have helped each other out with small amounts of money . This is on his bank statements, will it cause issues? His father pays100£ per month, money that he transfers in my account that I then use towards his therapy CBT sessions that I pay via REVOLUT or towards psychiatrist reviews.
The date to submit everything is 24/03.
I hope they will see that everything is there .
I am stressed but I know I haven’t done anything wrong .
Please can you advise me? Thank you 🙏🏼

Currently my son and myself live with my father but I am looking to use all the inheritance to purchase a property for us both outright. This would mean my savings would go back under the £16k threshold. Would this been seen as acceptable to use the money to purchase a property or not please ? Any advice I’d be very grateful of 🙂

Hi. When your total money across all accounts goes over 6k and you declare it, does it trigger a full finances check? (Possibly even a full review)

When I was migrated over to UC from ESA, the lady on the phone who did the UC application completion, told me this happens and I'll have to provide bank statements.
She actually said "Just pay off some debts to avoid this happening"

I have some savings and in a couple of months time I will go over the 6k capital allowance, because it will be a PIP double payment month.

Will I really have to go through a bank statement palaver?
(I don't have any debts to pay off, apart from a mortgage, and making sudden extra payments there is seen as 'depreciation of capital' so that can't be done to avoid bank statement hassle)

I'm not going to not declare, but would like a heads up on what is about to happen.

Thanks

Quick outline: Never worked since leaving school at 16, now in my 50's.

Always been on income support, incapacity benefit, ESA, support group etc.

Since being forced to migrate to Universal Credit, I am now on New Style ESA with support group and Universal Credit LCWRA.

As like many others here all my letters have said i was always on Income Related ESA.

But as we now know thats changed me to Contribution Based/New Style ESA.

So im presuming ive had 40+ years of Class 1 Stamps paid into my pension.

Anyway, the question really is. What's the benefit of Contribution based / New Style ESA now?

I'm guessing it means ill probably end up with the full State Pension?

Which may hinder other benefits down the line like Pension Credit.

However in the here and now… My Local Council in there wisdom have stopped automatic Council Tax support for non working claimants and basing it all on income.

I have never paid Council Tax.

So now as the New Style ESA is counted as income i have to pay 50%

This dosn't sit right with me as there has been no changes apart from the name in benefit.

I know they are currently being taken to court over this as it has affected thousand of disabled people in the same situation.

So what can i do? Could i stop claiming ESA and get the same equivelent from Universal Credit , or would it be less? If so allowing me to be under the Council Tax threshold as most Universal Credit isnt counted?

Would this be a bad move?

Im sure i read someone did exactly this.

Sorry for the rant, but im already losing out on increases in ESA and Housing and LCWRA etc as all those going up just gets taken off my transitional protection.

So essentially getting less and less for the next few years until all my Transitional Protection has gone. And now the added Council Tax bill, I'll be £1400 a year worse off from now on.

Yes i fully understand the notion of that its all free tax payers money i recieve. But as with most people on here, being severley disabled all my life it's been through no fault of my own.

Thoughts?

Hi there,

There is a lot of mixed information online about this topic so just wondering if anyone would be able to provide some clarity.

My husband and I have a joint UC claim. We both work, he is full time (around 50hrs per week) and I'm part time (around 15hrs per week). We have 2 children, the youngest recieves high rate DLA care component. We therefore receive extra elements to our UC (disability & carers). I also receive PIP (standard daily living).

We have spent the majority of our relationship in credit card debt, which we have now thankfully all paid off. I would like to start making overpayments on our mortgage from our wages. I'm thinking about £300-£400 per month. Would this be considered deprivation of capital by UC?

Thanks so much for reading!

Hi. As with others here I'm having trouble getting UC to disregard my COL payments. I have informed them about these multiple times. They eventually told me to include them in Welfare Payments, and my journal then came up with the correct amount of capital. Then I had to upload 3months of statements in addition to which I uploaded, as requested, all statements that included COL payments. I listed the actual dates to make it easy for them to check and also included some government links and quoted the places where it says they are permanently disregarded.

Last week they missed paying me by several days without any warning.

Now they have sent puzzling letters and adjusted entitlements. However, they have ignored entirely the COL payments. Instead they seem to have subtracted my first UC payment from the savings recorded at start of claim (September) but ignoring COLs. (They also told me that backdated welfare payments from years ago is only ignored for 1 year, which I had never mentionsed as that is entirely irrelevant to my complaint about ignoring COL payments!)

I told them I disagree with their calculations and cited what has already been discussed in my journal. The person who responds to my entries says he is starting a mandatory reconsideration and would I like any further information added?

Sorry for the very long post but I would really appreciate some advice about this.

Thanks.

Hi all, I'm new to this. I've been on UC LCWRA component since the start of lockdowns. Just heard about the April 2026 changes and I'm panicking about it for a possible future reassessment although this would be my very first assessment. I'm on ADP (Scottish equivalent to PIP). Im on the Autistic spectrum. I'm unsure if this will greatly affect me and disregard that disability as nothing. Also have anxiety and depression.

Thanks in advance :)

Hello

I wonder if anyone can help, I receive higher rate care DLA for my youngest daughter who is 7. I also have my oldest daughter who has just turned 21 living with me and have stated to have a non-dependent deduction taken from the housing element of £93.02 on my universal credit payment.

I believed that this should not be taken because I receive DLA for my youngest daughter, however 2 different members of staff from Universal Credit now have advised that this only applies if my 21 year old daughter was receiving DLA.

Is this correct? Everything I have read online states that it should be disregarded if I am in receipt of it.

Thank you

take home pay on payslip £2100

Private fuel deduction £100

Uc use £2200 as the take home so I end up paying £100 private fuel but then uc take the 55p etc

hope that makes sense !?

I reported a change of circumstances to UC. They blocked my payments until the changes would be verified. As I needed a home visit, I waited several months for this to happen while not receiving any payments. Eventually, they verified the changes and I got the missing payments all on the same day. The statements were generated the same day when the payments came through, but they did not indicate the delay at all. They were dated as if they'd been created in November and said "X amount was paid on 10 November". Although I actually only received the money in February. I would think that the amount I received with several months delay should be classed as backdated benefit payment and disregarded for capital. I asked for confirmation of this through my journal. They said it would be disregarded. Now I've got my latest statement and they did NOT disregard the amount despite me reporting it as backdated benefit payment and even leaving a note about it for clarification of what happened.

I'm not sure if this qualifies as backdated benefits or not. It's not a big difference in the money I get monthly, but if the amount is disregarded, I expect to go under the 6k capital limit soon. If not disregarded, I would stay over 6k, having to keep reporting capital, stand the scrutiny, possibly more delays in payments etc. It would be such a relief for my mental health not to have to deal with that. But I don't want to spend the energy fighting this decision if they are actually right about it.

Anyone has a clue?

In June last year I migrated from ESA (support group) to UC with an ESA element (contribution based). As a precaution I contacted the local Council and asked about council tax support. I was told it would all automatically be transferred over, and I continued to receive it. Fast forward to today and I have received 2 letters telling me that from the 8th Dec I was no longer entitled to it due to my ESA payments (there has been no change in the amount paid since July 2025). I'm now faced with a back payment of £260, and a yearly Council Tax payment increase of £932 on top of what I paid last year.

I rang the council CT dept' and they said they had only been notified by CIS/ATLAS of my ESA payments in the 14th Jan 26, so they may well claw it all back to July last year. The thing is having transferred over to UC once housing is deducted I'm no better off than when I was claiming ESA with housing benefit and council tax support.

Do you think they have wrongly stopped my entitlement to CT support, or have I been royally stuffed by their communication? Not sure where to go from here, any suggestions or advice appreciated.
