Hi, I have a 16 Yr old daughter that has autism and high anxiety. She has been out of school for 3 years and has missed out on making friendships with people of a similar age. She loves arts and craft, sewing, crochet and would like to chat to someone similar and maybe meet up. Can anyone point me in the right direction. We live in exeter. Thanks

It might be worth speaking to your local authority to see whether there are any groups in your area that she could join. 

Her GP may also be able to signpost you both to some local services or groups.

It looks as though the National Autistic Society (NAS) have a local branch in Exeter, so I'd encourage you to get in touch with them to find out more too.

She has been out of school for 3 years

I'm sorry to hear this. Has she been able to access education in a different way, such as through homeschooling?

Thanks for already finding the courage to reach out to us. I appreciate how much courage it can take to reach out, especially when you are new.

In terms of meet-ups for your 3-year-old, some options include:

• National Autistic Society Exeter and District branch
• South West Autism Support
• Play Cafe Torquay - SEN Sunday's
• Enabling support through the local authority
