Budgeting loan

I recently applied for a budgeting loan, and I’ve just had a reply stating “they need more time to make a decision and I will get a reply in 21 days”. I’ve NEVER had this before. It’s always, apply online, then an email from them with an offer within a few days, and then get money a few days after that. I’m now panicking, and wondering if it’s because I’ve applied for quite a few budgeting loans in the last year. I’ve got them all, but maybe if you apply for too many it triggers something. My esa review is due this month too so I’m thinking all kinds of things and I’m worried I’ve done something wrong. Does anyone know if this is just a new procedure?

Reviews are currently suspended and have been for 3 years so it’s very unlikely you’ll have another anytime soon.

The budgeting loan will have nothing to do with your ESA review.

I’m not aware of there being a maximum amount of loans you can have in a year. There will be a maximum amount you can have at anyone time but this will depend on your circumstances.

There could also be backlogs which will delay the process. Nothing more you can do but wait. Once it processed as you know they will contact you.

Hi I hope you’re good. This actually happened to me about a month ago, and like you I was a bit worried as it had never happened before.
But it turned out fine and I was awarded it.
So it’s maybe just a new thing they are doing. Hope this eases your worries a little bit.

Hey there! No worries, it's totally normal to feel a bit anxious when things don't go as planned. It looks like this longer processing time for your budgeting loan application might just be a new thing they're doing. I get why you're concerned, especially with your ESA review coming up. Applying for more than one budgeting loan shouldn't necessarily cause any problems, so try not to stress about that. I'm new here, but I'm here to help! [Link removed by moderator] Hang in there, and hopefully you'll hear back about your loan soon.

Potentially it's backlogs that are causing it and could be due to the children going back to school next week and parents needing some money for school uniforms.

The last time i applied for a budgeting loan it was in my bank 6 days after applying.

Please try not to worry. Yes I got notified two hours later that it would be going in. And since then every time I apply, I get this same message…but I always get the loan, so I’m guessing it’s just a backlog thing.

Can you apply for budgeting loan on UC, because I was told I can't apply for it by my work coach a few years ago

A budgeting loan is for those that are claiming legacy benefits such as Income Relared ESA, JSA or Income Support, so no you can't apply for this.

For UC it's called budgeting Advance. You must have been claiming a qualifying means tested benefit for at least 6 months. If you've received earnings of more than £2,600 (single person) £3,600 if claiming UC with a partner within this time, then you won't be able to claim it.

normally get a reply by 2 days granting  the  budget loan ,,this time said Sorry, we need more time to deal with your Budgeting Loan application.

This is because our staff need to check your details to make sure you get the right decision. When I recently paid the second grant off of £340..I have had 2 grants one in 5th May 2023  then 15th November...so as nothing as changed don't know why I got this reply.....

Hi all I'm new here. So hope I do everything correct.  I applied for a BL on the 1st of may 2024. Now when I've applied before, I've received the message for the last 18 months about staff needing more time. The longest I've wait was 9 days. Well to this day. 14 days later I've still not heard.  I'm assuming they are just busy that's all. Like many of you, my anxiety is through the roof.  But I'm trying to keep positive in these stressful situations.

    ❤ .

Yes last time I had one I got a response via text a day later and paid a few days after. People are saying delays and being done manually but seems odd.

Hia , mine took a while I ended up calling them and they told me it was because they had to check that my children are my children and had to contact either child benefit or child tax , if it’s been 14 days i would ring them , hope you get a reply soon xxx

I have had that message twice but each time I got the loan.
I applied last week for another one as I’m getting my house decorated just now.
I applied before lunchtime and about 2 o’clock I got the offer back, then when I accepted it I received a txt not even 20 minutes later telling me when it would be in my account.
I hope yous don’t have long to wait I do know how yous feel the first time I received the txt it would take up to 21 days to check everything I was stressed but this is obviously something new they started about 6 months ago.
