Hi, I'm Sim1211! My husband and I both have health conditions. Can we claim extra benefit?

Sim1211

Good Morning
I have MS and a broken arm (Jan 2023). Just had a big operation to repair it.
My husband has Parkinson's Disease with pre-demensia.
i have had to have a live-in carer as i am unable to look after my husband.
is there any extra benefit we can claim at the moment?

Hello @Sim1211 and welcome to our online community, how are you and your husband keeping? I'm sorry things are difficult for you both right now, and hope you have good medical teams looking after you.

To help us better understand your current situation, would you be able to share with us the benefits you are currently in receipt of?

You can also use this Benefits calculator to see if there is anything else that you are likely to be eligible for, in the meantime.

I've moved your thread to our Benefits and financial support category and slightly tweaked the title to help others spot it.

Take care, and welcome again.

There’s no benefits that you Will automatically be entitled to.

Are you both under or over state pension age? Do you claim any other benefits? If so which ones? Do either of you work?

my husband is 76 on Tuesday and i am 67.
we are both retired. both get state pension.
i get higher pip and my husband gets attendance allowance.

Does your PIP include the daily living part? Are you claiming pension credit? Does anyone else live with you or is it just the 2 of you?

sorry for all the questions but can't give the correct advice without all the information.

Based on what you have said my calculations show that you as a minimum should be receiving a weekly income between you both excluding the PIP & AA payments, of £545 per week.
