Hi. I applied for PIP on the 10th May 2023. I have today been advised that I have been awarded both. I was shocked to be told though that there is no backpayment from the 10th May. Is this correct? I did ask,but was told its the new rule. Thank you for your help

I've not heard of any new rules. Providing you had the difficulties for at least 3 months when you applied and you're not transferring from DLA then it should be paid from the date you rang to start your claim. If none of those apply i'd advise you to ring them again tomorrow and tell them it's paid from the date you rang to start your claim. You're not the first person to ask this same question here within the last couple of days.1

I was diagnosed and in hospital from 1st may to 6th May, so My actual illness began 1st may 2023. I then applied for PIP on the 10th May 2023. Am I right in thinking That you have to have the condition 3 months before applying? so That would mean No backpayment from the 10th May.0

It should be 3 months from 1st May.

Thank you Poppy123456. I didnt have the condition 3 months before I applied. This is what they've told me, so the back payment dont apply from 10th May. Its so confusing. The've given me a back payment of £59.62,which is from the day I had my assesment to the award. Sorry for so many questions.

As you didn't have the difficulties for at least 3 months before you applied then it won't be paid from the date of your claim. If the difficulties started from 1st May then 3 months from that date is 1st July so you should be paid from that date. What date is the money owed paid from? You say the assessment date but i don't know when that was.

The assessment date was 1st August and I got a decision on 4th August. They will pay me £59.62 10th August and then my 4 weekly payments will start from 7th Sept0

Seems like they are saying your difficulties started later than the date you went into hospital. (1st May) You say your illness started on 1st May but it's not awarded based on a diagnosis, it's awarded because of the difficulties you have against the PIP descriptors. You will need to ring PIP to ask them when it's not from 1st July.0
