Carers allowance and work expenses

Hello,
I work part time and get Carers Allowance. My job requires me to travel to different locations using my car and my employer reimburses me for mileage and parking expenses at the end of each month.

Does this reimbursement count as my earnings?
Many thanks

Heya @Fii and welcome to the community! I hope you're doing well today?
I'm not 100% sure of the answer, but looking online I found this article stating;
"You can also deduct expenses that are incurred ‘wholly and exclusively for the purposes of the business’, in the same way that you can for income tax purposes.
If, because of your work, you have to pay for someone to look after the person you care for, or a child under 16 who you or your partner get Child Benefit for, you can deduct those payments from your earnings up to the value of half your earnings (after the above deductions if they apply).
However, this will not apply if the person you are paying is a close relative of either yourself or the person you are looking after (a close relative is a spouse, partner or civil partner, parent, son, daughter, brother or sister)."
Hopefully that's at least slightly helpful? If not, I'll look into it more for you shortly. Or maybe a regular will have a more definitive answer?0 -
Hi @Albus_Scope, thanks for responding.I’m still unsure about my original question as my employer reimburses me back for these expenses.I don’t want to go above the weekly earning limit and lose my carers allowance. I would rather reduce my working hours.0
