edited January 22 in Universal Credit (UC)
Hi, I lost my job of 16 years through a disability. I was on ESA for 2 years then i was put on universal credit end of 2019 after handing sick notes in I was told I had limited capability for work and work related activity. When I asked if I was entitled to extra money they said no I wasn't. Around December 2023 I had assessment and they told me again I had LCWRA and I will be entitled to extra money now. Will this be back dated till end of 2019 or just since my assessment December 2023. Just wonder why I would be able to get extra money now and not from beginning. Kind regards Gord_O

What was the reason why you claimed UC? No one is put onto it, you have to claim it yourself.

The only reason why you wouldn’t be entitled to extra money for LCWRA element is if you’re claiming UC with a partner that already receives this element on your claim.
I would appreciate it if members wouldn't tag me please. I have all notifcations turned off and wouldn't want a member thinking i'm being rude by not replying.
If i see a question that i know the answer to i will try my best to help.

I tried to edit my comment but for some odd reason I can’t and it’s been less than 59 minutes since I posted the previous comment.

If you’re not claiming with a partner are you sure the previous decision was LCWRA and not just LCW?

Hey @Gord_O, welcome to the community :) I hope you're doing okay today! I'm sorry to hear about what you're going through. My partner also lost her job not too long ago due to disability.

I'll just move this discussion over to our Universal Credit category. Hope we can help you find the answers to your questions.

I was on ESA when I finished work think it was contribution based then after the year it changed to a different type of ESA for another year then was told I had to go on joint claim with my partner on universal credit. I had to hand in sick notes then I was told I would not need to hand sick notes anymore and was told I had LCWRA and did not need to look for work. I asked then if was entitled to extra money and they said no this was December 2019. And December 2023 I had an assessment and recently told again I had LCWRA and I would be entitled to more money now. My partner works 8hrs a week as she helps me with a lot with things due to my disability. My partner has no disability just me. Thanks again

Something is very wrong here and you should have been receiving the LCWRA element from when you claimed UC, assuming you were in the Support Group for ESA.

I'd advise you to put a message onto your journal under the payment section and ask why you've never received the LCWRA element on your claim.
