Hello all - I get pip allowance for myself for autism and mental health issues borderline personality disorder.
my husband has been diagnosed with early dementia and also awarded pip

My question is can I claim careers allowance for him as I make sure he stays in bed and I phone call for help if needed - other support is provided by others
even though I claim pip for myself and technically there is no reason I can not claim the careers allowance would this effect a future claim on my pip .

Lots of people claim carers allowance while claiming a disability benefit their self. Are either of you claiming any other benefits? if so which ones exactly?0

Hey there @joe1977 and welcome to the community.

I can see Poppy is already helping you with your query, but I just wanted to stop in and say hi. I'm just moving your discussion to the benefits category, so if anyone else has the same question, they'll be able to find it quickly. I hope that's ok?0 -
Thank u so much0

You can claim carers allowance as well as SSP because it’s under the earnings limit. However, if you decide to claim New style ESA when the SSP ends you can’t receive both payments for that and carers allowance because they are treated as overlapping benefits.
Have you used a benefits calculator to check entitlement to Universal Credit? If you or your partner had capital of more than £16,000 you will be excluded from claiming. https://www.entitledto.co.uk/benefits-calculator0
