Hi I am Amanda and I am on p.i.p as I am disabled and my husband became my carer in may 2023 ,we claimed carers allowance which my husband has been awarded in July and we have had payments go in the bank up until the 6th April and they have stopped.I have phoned carers allowance and they say it's on hold but we have had no letters sent out and I have phoned 4 times now but are no further forward with what is happening, all I know is my husband is self employed but now cares for me and I have sent off his tax return ,which shows he hasn't earned anything this year .I did post a copy of the tax form to carers allowance which I paid for next day delivery but have still not heard anything. Could anyone shed any light on this please.

Hey there @Ladygeorge and welcome to the community. :)

That sounds very frustrating, I'm so sorry. I'm afraid I don't have any answers for you there, but I'm hoping someone will be able to help shortly.  I just wanted to pop in and say a quick hello. :)

hello - I’m self employed and care for my disabled son and the same has happened to me - last full payment I had was in March and then everything stopped. I’ve called them every week for six weeks

Apparently they’ve changed the system for self employed and every April the account will be frozen until they’ve received your full accounts for the previous tax year. I sent my accounts over a month ago and am still waiting - they used to ask for accounts and continue payments until they were received but seems now we have to endure months of the benefit stopping while waiting for them to review our accounts

I’m told this will now happen every year - so if you haven’t yet sent in your finances for April 23-24 then send in asap but I’m afraid it’s taking time for them to approve these

ridiculous that the system now means a freeze of at least two months for all self employed carers
