Hi I am new here, just been through my 3rd attempt at applying for PIP, just received a text message this morning to inform me I have finally been awarded PIP, my question is, how long does it usually take between recurving the pip awarded text and your award letter itself and also how long until you receive your first payment?

Thanks in Advance

Hey there @shoumac and welcome to the community.

That's amazing news, I'm so happy for you! It must be a huge relief?
With regard to payment, it can be a while before the first payment drops, but I found the backpay I was owed appeared in my account a few weeks after the text, but before the letter. It can vary a bit, but just hold on tight!

I disagree that it's a few weeks. If this was an award from DWP then money owed is usually in your bank 3-5 working days after payment was sent. It's up to a couple of weeks for the letter.

great news did you take other claims to tribunal or did you just keep applying for pip I’m currently waiting for a tribunal still haven’t received the bundle been waiting for weeks for that to be posted out so looks like gonna wait a while for the actual hearing !

I didn’t take it to tribunal once, the first time I applied for pip was years ago and I wasn’t well informed enough about asking for a reconsideration and also hadn’t had half the diagnosis that I have today, then the time before this that I applied for PIP (2nd time) was such a distressing and painful experience that I declined so badly with my mental health meaning I couldn’t of mentally coped with the experience to be quite honest the guy who conducted my telephone assessment was a paramedic seemed so lovely over the phone so much so that I rarely ended up letting my guard down and completely trusted he would write what I said word for word which as hard a fit was I felt listened to and even understood he said all the right things to make me feel comfortable at all the right times even complimented me at the end of it and told me how inspiring it was that i had managed to successfully turn my life around when going through such a hard time, then when the report came in and the decision was not only to refuse my claim for pip but that I had somehow magically managed to score 0 in points for the entire thing! Despite being 1 point away from standard rate the first occasion trying to claim and the fact that my conditions had worsened and I had been diagnosed newly with adhd and autism! For example I explained to him I find it hard to concentrate on things especially to be when to start and finish something to complete it he wrote down one of my hobbies was reading!! He then took the complete and utter pee out of me and wrote down I was in continent as well and still scored me 0 for toilet needs (fyi I am not and never had been diagnosed as being incontinent!
I made the initial call to claim this time in July 2023 and had my assessment finally end of last month around 30th April, got the award text last Wednesday so am due 10 months worth of back pay as well which is much needed!
