New flat next week

hello .

I’m really exhausted and scared about moving. I move into a new flat next week. My daughter will be there also but she’s not on the tenancy agreement but they know she will be there just like she is here ( she’s 21) . I am worried I won’t do things right like sort out the water bill , pay off my final bills like council tax . I tried too apply for council tax at the new place ( we officially move in on Tuesday the 4th of June ) as my daughter is going to get the carpets put down on Friday . I don’t want to be told off if I haven’t sorted anything out . I did update my UC journal as I know how hard they can be . It’s an affordable rent basis . In a brand new borough. I’m scared but I don’t go out often due too anxiety, pain days . Today we traveled and I was nearly sick on the way back it makes me poorly . I just feel useless right now . My daughter is helping but it does get a lot for her as I can’t cope with forms and being on the phone . 😭.

Goodluck on your new home, would it be worth writing/typing things down that need doing. Like make a list and once you have done those cross them off. I know how stressful and daunting moving can be, but hopefully you'll soon be settled and enjoying your new home.

Best of luck with the move @Natz40 I totally understand how stressful moving can be at the best of times, so just go easy on yourself as it's a lot! As others have said, I am ALL about the lists, so you can tick them off as things are done, or add to them as needed.

thanks . Yes there’s so much to do . The rent being sorted out is the worse . I’m worried the electric won’t work .

thank you . Yes I have wrote in my notes section and have done some stuff , it’s just the rent part as we know UC are not the best and then I get scared . It’s a two bedroom flat in Warwick. It’s all new too me and my daughter. I know I’ll end up burnt out through all the stress .

thank you . Felt rough today as it took it out of me travelling yesterday and all the sensory overload. Starting too panic now and UC still haven’t sorted my new rent out .

When I picked up the keys for my social housing house in December there was no gas because it had been capped. For the gas to be reconnected I had to ring them and arrange for them to come to my property to complete the gas safety check and reconnect it. I don't know if it will be the same for you so you will need to check this.

There were no issues with the electric and everything was fine.

I note that you're claiming UC so rent will be paid in with this. Once you move into the property you will need to make sure you report a change of circumstances and tell them you've moved house. If it's social housing you will need to give the name of your landlord and they will contact them directly. I know you've said you've already done this but if you haven't yet moved house then they will no accept the changes until that change has actually happened.

It is stressful moving but hopefully once you've moved in everything will fall into place. Having moved at the start of the year myself it was only a couple of weeks after moving that everything was finally sorted. Good luck!

thanks . It’s affordable rent housing which is still the same they just do things a bit differently. Also I was told from the day I sign the tenant agreement so I just put that date in . They haven’t said anything so if they do then I will just tell them we couldn’t move as we had no vans sorted plus the carpets aren’t getting fitted until Friday . Hopefully it won’t cause much of an issue regarding the change of address and rent . Thanks I’m really having a difficult time I don’t know finding it all hard

Hi Natz40, empathy! Moving is misery.

When my mobility is rotten or I'm tired, I have a one 'major' thing per day rule, even if that thing's only a delivery. You could try that? Sort of 'today is council tax day and that's all I'm going to deal with today'. Tell the old council, tell the new one, have proof you did both. I don't know if CT is UC's territory in any way. , Put what you've done in your UC journal if need be. Remember you won't get some things signed off until after you've moved - e.g. your final electricity bill is based on your final meter reading
