Hi, my name is Donna_07111980!

Please can someone advise us.
My friend is 58 years old. He claims ESA contribution based and receives a top up of UC. He is receiving enhanced daily living & enhanced mobility.
He doesn’t currently claim housing cost as I’m allowing him to stay with me.
He is just about to collect the keys to his new social housing.
We are unsure can he still claim HB as his in receipt of ESA? But his also in receipt of UC?
it seems like a grey area?

Unless it's temporary or supported housing then help with the rent would be through UC known as housing element and not housing benefit.
Once he moves in he will need to log into his journal for UC and report a change of circumstances. The click housing and report it through there. He will not need to provide any proof of liability for rent because it's social housing. He will just need to tell them the same of his landlord and UC with verify it with them.

Thank you this is very helpful. Do u know if he will keep his ESA payment or will this change trigger a full move to UC ?
kind regards0 -
No problem. It can't trigger a move across because he's already claiming UC. His ESA is New style ESA and will continue as normal because it's not part of UC.
