LCWRA- Carer help?
Hello,
My eldest daughter currently claims UC LCWRA.
She cares for my younger daughter who receives PIP whilst I go to work and also allows her to stay overnight in her home 2-3 days a week to give me some respite.
CAMHS & MASH acknowledge she is my younger daughter’s carer and have provided a letter confirming that, but her council housing require proof in the form of her claiming a carers benefit.
Can my eldest daughter claim UC carers element?
We are scared of her claiming Carers Allowance because of all of the horror stories on the news and would rather not claim it.

Your eldest daughter will not be entitled to carers element at the same time as LCWRA element of UC because both can't be claimed at the same time by the same person.
To be clear, what exactly does the council need proof of her being a carer for? is your younger daughter claiming housing benefit for help with the rent?

Hi Poppy,
The council said to improve her banding they to be rehoused they need proof in the form of a carers benefit, that she is a carer.
I wish they would just accept the CAMHS and MASH letters confirming she is her sisters carer, but they won’t.

Good afternoon,
The council are insistent on my daughter claiming carers allowance.
Please can anyone confirm if she will be no worse off if she claims it. She is currently on UC LCWRA.
Thank you.

She will not be worse off if she claims carers allowance. It will be deducted in full from any UC entitlement and carers allowance will be paid as a separate benefit.
Can I just check what benefits other than PIP your younger daughter is claiming? If she claims Income Related ESA and that includes the Severe disability Premium, she will lose that if your other daughter claims carers allowance for looking after her.
