Can I claim disability benefits?

Really just wanted some advice/options on my benefit situation. I’m currently receiving approximately £109 A MONTH PIP. However I had a ‘seizure’ at home and was assessed by paramedics and was taken to hospital in an ambulance. Whilst in A&E and a telephone appointment I was informed that I am legally not to drive my car for 6-12 months. I’m having an MRI scan in 2weeks time. Can I claim disability benefits? I’m currently not working due to mental health issues. Please advise. Thanks Marcus

PIP is a disability benefit, which you said you're already claiming.

If you're not currently claiming any other benefits then you can use a benefits calculator to check entitlement to Universal Credit. If you live with a partner you'll need to claim as a couple and your joint circumstances will be taken into consideration. If you have capital/savings or more than £16,000 you're excluded from claiming.

If you've worked in the previous 2 tax years then you can look at claiming New style ESA. It's a contributions based benefit and entitlement will depend on your NI contributions in those 2 tax years. If you're receiving SSP from an employer you will not be able to claim ESA at the same time.

If you claim the above 2 benefits at the same time the ESA will be deducted in full from any UC entitlement.
